Evolution Turbo Lag

Before the turbo kicks in how does the evo drive is it a slow ride.

When the turbo kicks in does the car lunges ahead when you press on the gas.

well the EVO is a 2.0 liter engine, it is like any normal ride but you have to understand that this motor has large fuel injectors and intake that are held back until the turbo is used. If you drive the car without boosting it is basically like you are trying to drive to get good gas mileage. It runs fine but it isn't a speed demon with lots of hp. I can drive it this way and I don't have any issues but it is hard because you know that you have all that unused power. You could compair it to a normal eclipse I guess without turbo but you must understand that you can't simulate this in the car because just a little excelleration and you can hear turbo ready to go.

I actuallly LIKE the turbo lag. When cars are in front of me I drive in a relaxed manner. When the road opens up, I tear it up. I get pretty decent gas mileage overall doing that.

if you know your car you can minimize the lag effect.....notice i said lag effect and not lag itself....lag will always be there in any turbo car but learning when to put on the juice in say a corner makes all the difference. just get on the gas a second sooner then you normally would and hold on for the ride

The lag can be a drag, but overall it aint too bad. Years ago I had, a turbo that was sad because the lag was so dag...gone bad I was always a crab!
Thank you.

I don't drive an Evo, but I agree. It's especially nice if you have a FWD car and have to drive in snow too.

I have no problem dealing with turbo lag.... since I came from a Honda VTEC engine.

Ah VTEC. All the lag, none of the turbo. It's like waiting for bad sex.

This isn't lag. I have had turbos that didn't spool until 5500RPM. That was lag! It sucked around town, but was amazing when it opened up. :P One of the reasons I like the Evo so much was all that torque at 3500RPM. That's almost un heard of.

Exactly... in my car the VTEC power and roar is so addicting. If my next car doesn't have VTEC it must have a turbo.

Hobie - on a V6 VTEC is quite nice, thanks.

The way the Evo drives before the turbo kicks in like a car without turbo but what about when the turbo kicks in does the car lunges ahead when you press on the gas.

Intimidator. Please read what people are saying and stop asking the same question over and over.

The answer is YES, there is a lunge forward when the turbo spools......similar to a VTEC, but with a LOT more punch.

SC~
