Evos generally speaking are very reliable machines. However fluid changing on these cars is very important. You really have to change engine and transfer case oil frequently..even tho they are synthetic the car beats them up with high heat and power. Also compared to a civic the Evo is very hard on tires. You have a heavier car that will wear out summer rubber in 15K mi. Also the windshield is thin and cracks very easily. The car attracts attention and sometimes the wrong type of attention which can lead to more theft and haters. Search on "my car got keyed" threads. Other than that I love my Evo and hope to keep driving it for a long time.

Dude you are gonna get raped when you get into the Evo! You will love it no doubt.. but maintaining it will not be a walk in the park. Somehow how the good lord blessed me w/3 years of FREE oil changes from Mitsu. Somebody messed up there Parts are not cheap... OEM tires wear out rather quick and are expensive.. the brembos.. not cheap... the paint quality on Evo's bloww so maintaining that... thats just to name a few obvious things. But through it all you will love it! And make no mistake about it ...the b**** will deflower you! Have fun!

The yearly cost of maintenance of an Evo if driven regularly is equal to a total year's payments of a Civic.

the funnier part is that it's true!

Amen brother, I had an EBSI and loved, but the Evo is in a entirely different class, a better one!

If you questioning if can afford it, than you probably can't. Think about it this way if you can't pay cash for it you can't afford it.

Done by owner not stealership: (highly recommended)

evo VIII (5 spd)

Oil and filter CAI recharge kit every 2k ~$30
Driveline fluids with coolant flush every 7.5k ~$150+inspection/replacement of wearable parts (i.e. brakes, clutch, belts, etc.)
plugs depending on ~$2/ea copper (with oil change) ~$9/ea iridium (with driveline)
Rotation and balance of tires, free with most tire packages
Premium gasolina $3.87/gal. as we speak (FL)

feel free to add any if missed, this is right off the top of my head...

Oil every 2000 miles and fluids every 7500 is ridiculous. Oil is good for at least 3000 miles. Someone here sent in his AMSoil for testing after 6000 miles and they told him it would have been good for 7500. I got my fluids changed at 15000 but AMS told me 30000 would have been fine unless I beat the hell out of the car.

i had a 2000 civic si at one time as well. it wasnt too much better on gas. 26mpg. i get 24mpg on my evo now with a Cobb AP stage 2 tune.

i used synthetic on my civic so oil changes cost around the same. however, evo requires other fluid changes as well, such has differentials.

O man, you guys are such a big tease... telling me that its super awesome to drive... omg! I gotta look into it more.. i think im good with the fluids but its just the parts and labor that's got me in the corner. thx for the input guys..much appreciated

yea.. and the haters thing... thats a very good point.. im always super sensitive about that sort of thing.

well i mean the civic with synthetic oil is $50cnd anyways right. So its about the same. i think...
