i don't know what you guys are talking about. yeah maintenance is expensive WHEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT. but you don't have to do maintenance work anymore often on the EVO than the civic. to be honest with you, it's about the same if you follow the service manual because all honda's are supposed to go in for scheduled maintenance every 15k miles. each one is from $200-$600 depending on the mileage package they are doing. the EVO is the same way.

i dunno about the civic, but oil changes for my accord compared to the EVO are about the same. EVO i go 5k between oil changes, in the accord i used to only go 3k (that's what it called for) so i paid twice as much for the oil in the EVO, but it lasted almost twice as long. And if i had used a cheaper oil, like Mobil 1, then it actually woulda been cheaper in the EVO. when i made the switch to royal purple for the accord too though, i started going longer between changes.

brakes are cheaper on the EVO...stock honda brake job front and rear was like $300...the EVO's pads front and rear are like $150 and i swap them myself. it cost about the same to maintain my accord as my EVO. i don't count wear items such as tires and brakes because you control how fast those go out, so for me, the tires and breaks wore out just as fast on either car because of my driving style. people keep talking about stock tires being expensive...so what? who actually buys Advans for their cars? there are plenty of alternatives with more grip, longer life, for less money. the only real jump would be the insurance if you're young. i'm 29, so my insurance isn't bad on either car. if it costs you 10 times as much to maintain an EVO than a new civic, you're doing something horribly wrong in that EVO.

i hope what your saying is true!!! but yea, there are more fluids to change on the evo for sure and im pretty sure parts are more expensive because the lack of them. Also labor is more too since they are so rare around here.

NO USED PARTS!

Here let me help you since I'm not really a DIY'er and you don't seem like it

I just replaced brakes:
Front rotors: $650
Rear rotors: $360
Front pads: $255 (race pads)
Rear pads: $155 (race pads)
Street pads: $200 total
SS lines: $110
Motul fluid: $30
Labors: $300

Oil changes are normally $55 and although the dealer says 3000 miles you should really do it at 2300. I notice my car starts to run like poop at the 2700 mile mark.

ACD fluid should be changed every 5k if you drive hard 10k if you do not. ACD fluid change with oil change ran me $175.

It really depends on how you drive the car, as to how you will have to maintain it. Also what modifications you get and things of the sort.

If you do all the work yourself the evo is not expensive at all. Tcase, rear diff and tranny fluids only come out to like 100 dollars and you only need to change them out every 15,000 or 30,000 miles. Oil doesnt have to be changed til 5,00 miles but i change mine every 3 and it only costs me 30 dollars.

Get iridium spark plugs and they will last you up to 100,000 miles. Brakes are around 150 if you replace them yourself.

The things that kill you are gas, tires, and of course..... the mod bug

I don't really think anyone can tell him how to maintain his evo, because there are so many different factors. Obviously the guys who drive the car like its meant to be driven will have a higher maintenance bill. Those who drive enthusiastically every now and then will have a lower bill.

Depends on what you bought the car for and how you use it. I'm finding that my maintenance bills are closing in on mini-porsche territory whereas most find it cheap to maintain their cars.

you guys are crazy....

the iridium plugs are good for 60k miles at least

if you use amsoil, you shouldnt change it before 3500 miles,UNLESS THE CAR IS ON THE TRACK A LOT. have you ever seen what the oil change interval amsoil recommends? if you use the signature series oil, they recommend changing it every 35,000 miles or one year. even for severe use they recommend 17,500 miles. with the 100% synthetic oil from them, they still recommend that to be changed every 25,000 miles or 15,000 severe....

tranny fluid and they drive line fluids are good for at least 15-20k miles. i just had mine chaged with 15k on them and they looked almost new

if you think the evo is expensive to maintain, maybe you guys are just over-killing it with the maintence. get the right fluids and you will not be spending so much money on maintence

IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY, SWITCH EVERYTHING TO AMSOIL (except transfer case and rear diff)

but what parts are you talking about? yeah IF you blow up your tc, it's expensive..IF you blow up your tranny, that's expensive. but why would you need parts? what new car needs parts every couple of months? that's a ridiculous arguement. i haven't changed any factory parts on the car except the timing belt, balance belt, and spark plugs. i don't count wear items, but there have been no major parts replaced and i'm sitting at over 104k miles on my 06 EVO IX MR. oil does not need to be changed every 2300 miles, or every 3000 miles. that is just stupid and a waste of money.

the service manual says 5000 miles between oil changes, 15k miles you check fluid levels, and every 30k miles you replace the fluids. spark plugs are good for at least 60k miles (and are only $40 a set anyway if you know where to shop). that guy replaced rotors and all that crap. none of that NEEDED to be replaced. unless you start modding and buy parts because you WANT them, you shouldn't NEED to replace anything any more often than any other car. i replaced my rotors because i WANTED slotted rotors. not because the car needed rotors. stoptech slotted rotors: 399 shipped for all four...cheaper than stock rotors for my honda accord. hawk hps pads:150 shipped front and rear...also cheaper than stock pads for my honda accord. maintenance on an EVO is only as expensive as YOU want to make it. if you leave the thing alone, drive it, and do regular maintenance, you shouldn't have to replace anything on the car but wear items.

AMSOIL recommends changing their oil every 15k? or more? You're crazy to follow that kind of maintenance interval. Let me know how long your engine lasts.

btw, I change my Mobil1 every 3k on the dot or before, and I have 120k on my motor; no excessive blow by, the car doesn't burn oil, and compression checks perfect.

yes amsoils interval is 15,000 miles for their normal 100% syn.
their signature series interval is 17,500 miles...

look at their lab test results and tell me im crazy...
i bet you amsoil has less breakdown in their oil at 10,000 miles then mobil 1 would in 4-5k

like i said, i dont change mine every 15k, but its nice knowing that i could....

key word is "their" lab tests. Every company is going to tout their product.

I laugh at the AMSOIL interval because I changed the oil on a Nissan Xterra that was using AMSOIL. At his "recommended" oil change interval, his oil came out looking like chocolate pudding.

...and this guy was an engineer. I wasn't going to argue with him because I'm just a lowly technician.

What i did is have a daily driver 1996 civic which is completely stock. I only use my evo every weekend and autocross. Saves me money on gas and maintenance. I have had my car for almost two years now. Have done all oil and fluid changes myself. It is not expensive at all this route. I have an Evo in like new and great resale value. I will never sell my evo though.
