evo maintenance
AMSOIL recommends changing their oil every 15k? or more?
You're crazy to follow that kind of maintenance interval. Let me know how long your engine lasts.
btw, I change my Mobil1 every 3k on the dot or before, and I have 120k on my motor; no excessive blow by, the car doesn't burn oil, and compression checks perfect.

Overall the maintenance is not too much more than your civic. You'll use more tires, pads, fluids, and fuel. If you're worried about maintenance on a performance orientated vehicle then maybe the evo isn't for you.
but what parts are you talking about? yeah IF you blow up your tc, it's expensive..IF you blow up your tranny, that's expensive. but why would you need parts? what new car needs parts every couple of months? that's a ridiculous arguement. i haven't changed any factory parts on the car except the timing belt, balance belt, and spark plugs. i don't count wear items, but there have been no major parts replaced and i'm sitting at over 104k miles on my 06 EVO IX MR. oil does not need to be changed every 2300 miles, or every 3000 miles. that is just stupid and a waste of money.
the service manual says 5000 miles between oil changes, 15k miles you check fluid levels, and every 30k miles you replace the fluids. spark plugs are good for at least 60k miles (and are only $40 a set anyway if you know where to shop). that guy replaced rotors and all that crap. none of that NEEDED to be replaced. unless you start modding and buy parts because you WANT them, you shouldn't NEED to replace anything any more often than any other car. i replaced my rotors because i WANTED slotted rotors. not because the car needed rotors. stoptech slotted rotors: 399 shipped for all four...cheaper than stock rotors for my honda accord. hawk hps pads:150 shipped front and rear...also cheaper than stock pads for my honda accord. maintenance on an EVO is only as expensive as YOU want to make it. if you leave the thing alone, drive it, and do regular maintenance, you shouldn't have to replace anything on the car but wear items.

well parts like filters, rotors, bushings, shocks, linkages, and etc... roads over here are bad. Pot holes everywhere... like wear and tear items.
well i use royal purple, and change the oil every 5k with 104k on my 06 IX MR, and my car doesn't burn oil, have excessive blow by, and compression checks have also be perfect. in the manual for the car it says oil changes are every 5k miles with whatever oil you use, so changing it at 3k or any sooner than that is just a waste of time and money. my engine has lasted just fine. 104k miles, driven hard every day, raced every chance i get, with the only power mod being an HKS catback, and the thing still runs 12's. evidently, my service interval's are fine.
you would be surprised how quickly that oil breaks down
complete junk imo
sooo much contradicting information in this thread, how is any newbie supposed to sort it out?
If you take your car to the dealership to do all the scheduled maintenance using their parts and labor then yep...it's expensive. The same is true for any car though. If you want to cut down on the costs bring your own fluids/parts or do the work yourself if possible. The only work I have done at the dealership is oil every 4-5K and my 60K service just in case I decide to sell the car it'll be nice to have receipts for the major services.

well you can't count that towards maintenance. that's just bad driving. don't run through pot holes. he's trying to figure out how much more this car will be compared to another car. if you run over potholes in any car you're eventually going to screw it up. that's not something to take into account just on the EVO. you don't need that many parts for the car. if you look at the normal service schedule the only thing you're ever replacing is fluids, brake pads, and eventually spark plugs, and the timing belt. tires will need to be replaced along the way, but that's it. all the other stuff people keep naming is stuff they changed because they wanted to. not because it wore out, so why include that?
