Evo 8 weak links, and common problems?

As much as we like to think otherwise I'm guessing like every other car on the market the EVO has some factory weak links or parts that like to fail. I'm looking for some insite on what to upgrade or check for, do and dont's.

Example my previous car was an SRT-4, the SRT guys know that the sway bars suck, they like to eat front wheel bearings, and an aftermarket suspension bushing kit is a must even on a stock car.

I've heard the tranny can be a common problem on these as mine is curretly grinding into 4th at anything above 6k with some quicker shifts.

Been told the transfer case is my friend so don't beat it up lol.

I would say the biggest weak leak in the Evo is the transfer case, if you plan on going to the track and launching it you can pretty much count on it going out.

Lifters, I don't think they hurt anything but they get on your nerves.

that space between the steering wheel and seat usually causes most of the problems, and theres no warranty fix for it either

I've heard weak 3rd and 4th gear synchros. Shep usually replaces them with updated ones. Someone correct me!

the t-case will be fine unless your popping the clutch...... but yes the t-case is very much the weak point on these cars.....

OPEN FRONT DIFF.
Many people don't realize that it's the open front diff on earlier VIIIs that causes the transfer case failure, not the transfer case itself. If you are launching or driving an evo hard that has an open front diff, that is most likely the cause for the broken transfer case.

CLUTCH
Designed weak to prevent divetrain damage

FUEL PUMP
There's a good reason even low power VIIIs are using Walbro 255s.

HVAC unit sucks and get stuck. full TSBmust be performed probably out of pocket.

VIII Recaro bolsters prone to breaking

...want more? Cause I can keep on going...

well the early VIIIs didnt have a cabin filter. the blender door then gets jammed from dust. then it's hard to turn the knobs. then the knobs crack off from being too hard to turn. then you buy a new dash control unit. it's still hard to turn. then you buy a TSB kit to fix it, and have to take out the dash to perform the TSB and fix it for good with a TSB kit.

I went through that whole spiel and got as far as having the TSB kit.

Transfer case, clutch. Launching the car will kill both but it's oh so very worth it.
