I installed the link and lever replacement kit (P/N 7801A110) today. It took about 15 minutes and required only a phillips-head screwdriver. The heater knob now works as it did when new. I would recommend this fix before it gets cold or, worse yet, you break the knob off trying to force the heater door open.
I have this on my evo as well, i haven't broken it.
The problem is switching hot to cold and vice versa. I avoid it by using hot air late into spring, then gently switch it to cold, and same for winter. So I only use it twice a year
is there a site that sells this part and ships to europe?

Does anyone know if the Lancers AC control module is identical to the Evo's?
I ask this because my original one allowed me to vent in air in all mode (Front, Front/Lower, Lower, Etc)
This new one I bought to replace it keeps the orange light for the recirculation on in every setting except for the windshield, I want fresh air!

With mine, I could force it to turn all the way to heat, but it would just snap right back to cool when i let go... till I eventually broke the knob off and used needle nose pliers.Works great now

Thanks again,

according to Mitsu, we can pull everything apart, swap in the upgraded nylon gearing mechanisms, and install the cabin filter. if you look at the black box under they dash, you will see a perforated rectangle-shaped spot. that's the part that needs to be cut and the filter goes there.
this is all what i've read. i haven't tried any of it, so don't quote me!
i'm told we can also take the box apart, clean out any dirt/grime/leaves that may be in there and it will be cool again, for a while. it's still good to replace the plastic gears, though... as they are an upgraded design.
i have yet to do either. i just turn the knob, gently, from side to side 'till it moves. i'm too lazy to take the dash apart. LOL
