It is. But at times you need it. And I originally hoped my repairs would be simple too but they turned out to be the whole job. By that time, the thing was apart and I wasn't going to let it beat me.

Hey rayman0690, you seem to be the man who figure this out here thank god...
i am having trouble with my 03 lancer too. i tried to fix it myself (i thought it was just the knob) and it worked for 2/3 days (a little bit hard but nothing crazy), and then, nothing again. i looked behind it, the cable is bent.
Do you think i would order a new heater blend door too ? how to be sure the heater blend door is still ok since i cant use the cable anymore?

Im completely lost...

PS: the "heater blend door ref 7801A360", when i look at "autocenter.net" with this reference, it says "Damper Kit, A/M", is it that ?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP !!! GREAT POST !!!

Yes. The heater blend door is actually a "kit." This is because it contains the blend door itself, a piece of insulation and 10 (or so) screws that allow the giant white box (air mix box) to be put back together. That's why it shows up as a damper kit.

Just wanted to clarify in the event that someone else had the same question. I will be sure it add it to the main posts.

And I will finish this thread someday! Promise! With a complete write-up.

Thanks so much for this guide! I only needed to swap the gears and cable and it is fixed. Sadly, my knob was already broken, so I need to find a way to fix that too.

But the pliers trick works again! I have heat!

The gears were an easy fix and my cable was definitely bound up. Big thanks to Mitsubishiparts.net -- I ordered Tuesday and had the parts Friday.

Been working through this fix the last hour. Fixed everything except the gears which will be in on Friday. Hopefully that fixes it. Otherwise the dash is coming out. I'm like you rayman, not gonna let a damn plastic door beat me!

For comparisions sake, Part # 7801A110 Link,Heater Air (Gears) from the dealer was $26. From MitsubishiParts.net was $13 + $10 shipping.

Lastly, a 3M filter from Lowes costs $6 and you can cut three air cabin filters out of it. Cut out the plastic hole, cut filter to size, insert, and cover the hole with black electrical tape. Easier and cheaper than buying the Mitsubishi kit.

If I try to add the part #7801A110 to my cart at MitsubishiParts.net I get an odd part description "Link, heater Air C". Is that supposed to be like this or am I choosing the wrong part?
Another frustrating thing is that it seems I am stuck with only two options on this part: the above store or dealer. I would be more than happy to buy from MitsubishiParts.net if somebody could confirm the part description is correct.
Thanks!

Does this address the 05+ evos too? Cause my knob is hard to turn, I'm afraid of snapping it one day. But I don't know if the TSB fixes have already been to 05's from the factory.

I can't say this with 100% confidence but I believe the revised gears should be on 05+ Lancer/Evos....MAYBE. However, the only way to know for sure is to check.

This entire process wouldn't have been done unless an individual complained about it at which point it MAY have been taken care of under warranty. But really, unless there was a complaint I doubt it was fixed. But the chance still remains the revised gears were put in at the factory. Although, I would check just to be sure.

If you don't...you could have major problems down the line.

I'll try to take a look tomorrow. Umm...what should I be looking for to know if I have the pre or post TSB gears?

My fault. I will add this image into the post when I get the chance.

(I just included the link so the image wouldn't take up the post space here.)

On the left are the revised gears and on the right are the stock ones. Hope that helps!

Hmm... I got a new set of gears from the dealer - and one of them is like the one on the top left (new one) whereas the other looks like the one on the bottom right (old one). Is it possible they have same part numbers for old and new ones?
