Agreed. I only did this fix because I had 6 months of down time to upgrade and repair other things. Time is key in this repair.

I have replace the gears and the link cable, the knob turns easily now. But now my knob won't turn to full hot, gets about halfway through the red section and then stops. When looking under the dash, I can see the link cable can proceed further, just some small piece of plastic prevents the one gear from going any further. I can go to full ac, but doesn't feel as cold as it used to be prior to fixing all of this. Thought I mounted the gears incorrectly, but do to the raised dot on the air box gear itself, no way to mount it wrong and have it work that I can tell. I removed the cable itself from the gear, and it does feel like when going to the cold side, that the cable isn't engaging all the way, I can move the gear a little farther to engage full a/c. My theory is the cable itself is too long, but wanted to check to see if anyone had this issue and has a fix. I ordered the exact part # mentioned in the TSB from the dealer, so hope I wasn't given the incorrect one.

Check the routing on your cable. You may have it bent in an arc or have accidentally switched the cables' locations. There should be a blue and a black cable. I don't remember their configuration off the top of my head. I might be able to take a picture soon if I get some free time.

Again, check how you have the cable routed from the point on the HVAC ECU (knobs and gears area behind the dash) and the point on the side of the white air mix box where they actually clip to the gears themselves.

Hope that helps and makes sense!

Could someone please explain how to manually change the temperature? I tried to turn on my defrost tonight but the temperature knob wouldn't go over to the hot side like usual. Right now it's stuck on the cold side. All I need is to be able to switch it over to the hot side so I can use my defrost and I'll be good to go.

Thanks!

edit

I figured out which wire to pull on to control my temperature, but the air coming out of the vents isn't hot at all and I can get the temperature knob to go all the way to the right whenever I pull on the cable. Any advice on what might be going on?

Good/bad news everyone!

Sorry for the lack of ever updating and finishing this thread. I have been very busy with lots of life changes in the past year or so. Jobs and classes have been crazy.

This morning I had some antifreeze drop onto my foot while driving. Awesome. Have yet to tear the car down but I will basically have to re-enact my dis-assembly described in this thread.

What does that mean?

I'm taking pictures this time around. And I will have a step by step guide for dash dis-assembly.

I will finish this thread before April of next year (it would mark the 2 year this thread has been up) and give a comprehensive guide as well as an update on my fix from two years ago. With pictures this time!

This is a new issue so the quality of my work isn't necessarily reflected by my issue this morning.

I'll let everyone know how it's going.

Thanks for reading this and I hope the thread has helped you in your endeavors.

Lucky you. You get to do it twice! At least you know what's in store for you this time though.

Looks like a major PITA I don't envy you at all .

Update: I have been working on this issue with my heater core and I have the interior 80% back together as of right now.

I will be giving a full write-up soon with some scattered pictures here and there. Sorry, but I didn't take a step-by-step and bolt-by-bolt picture guide.

But there will be plenty of comprehensive information!

Keep it here.

Working on writing up the guide right now.

The interior is completely reassembled and I am just waiting on a few other things to get my car road-worthy.

I should have the guide ready within a month.

I'm looking forward to an update. This issue really annoys me, and i need to do something to fix it as the new gears didn't help. Just don't want to come to the truth that i have to take it all apart.

So is it safe to say that if you put on the new revised gears, and your still stuck on either cold or hot, the blend door is the problem?

What a joke to engineering..
