A question 400+whp Evo's...
First off this is the dumbest question i ever heard.why have an evo if you dont need or want the power.you should of bought the lancer.400 whp is the perfect number because you can probably outrun most cars on the road(if thats what your into).
One last thing what does having 400 whp have to do with having a "roll cage".if your drag racing a roll cage is for cars running 9.99 or faster and itll be very hard to run 9s with 400.

i think the answer he was looking for is that we all have small ***** (plural).
trust me i use all 430 or so whp on the road. not to hate but i think u just dont understand. my suggestion is to get rid of your car.
but man has always strived to make things faster, better, etc. i mean why Sky dive? all its from is Airborne army stuff. or why ride roller costers? because its fun.
we love the excitement everytime we put on foot to the floor. simple.

David I have the addiction that you speak of but I usually only upgrade when necessary. I track a lot and sometimes I drive my car but most of the time it sits on a college campus. That being said I love going fast but my rendition of fast is through turns not on a highway, not a 1/4 mile etc.
I just can't enjoy my car enough on a public highway without worrying about getting pulled over. I currently have cosworth m3's, valvesprings, retainers, full exhaust, boost controller, tune, ported manifold, fmic, coilovers, swaybars, and things of the sort but it just stop being fun after I hit a certain power level. On the street I can do a pull but I either A.) realize I'm closing in on 65 and shut down which is all too quick B.) end up at 80 and HAVE to shut down before I go to jail.
For the few seconds the rush isn't worth it and if I want to cruise I'd rather not do it in a car that has 14kg/16kg spring rates. I'm beginning to understand though we're all enthusiasts, we all have different backgrounds, and the difference is what drives the hobby because we can all learn something from one another.
To other OP's, I never said leave your evo stock but 400+whp is a lot for the street and can easily get anyone in trouble. Take for instance if you need one of your friends to drive your car then that's just asking for it right there. I'd wager that 97%+ of the big turbo cars do not have owners who can full out drive them, but like others have said its there for comfort and bragging. I just posted this to get an understanding from other members as to why they modify, I hope more people contribute to this thread to provide a broader insight for others

I guess on a tight road coarse 400whp seems like a lot....and I am guessing that is what you are referring too....but on a long on ramp really getting into the car on the street, IMO, 400whp isn't powerful at all.
Horspower is all relative but you get used to 400whp pretty quickly compared to 500,600, etc.
Here is the bottom line...your car sounds like it handles great in tight turns...and im sure you drive it well....but on any real straight away...your 400whp evo is in the big scheme of things slow and would be left behind drastically by many of the cars on this forum.
I don't just drag race or run the car on the highway. I've done a bunch of NASA HPDE events at this point and am now in HPDE4. I couldn't attend the last event here at Mid Ohio because it was the same weekend as our shootout. Intentions are to go and get my competition license. Next year, if all goes well I will compete at the Nationals. I too love road racing. As a matter of fact I'd rather drive on the road course than I would at the drag strip.
400 whp is a respectable EVO, it is not fast though, not by my standards.

Honestly this is just a dumb question. If cars were meant to be driven jsut from point a to point b then every car besides track cars would have 100 hp. I mean look at honda accord v6 or the toyota camry these are by no mean track cars but they still put out around 240 hp so whats the point? Because its nice to be able to step on the gas and get a fun feeling from it.
You seem to be alone in thinking that 400 hp is fast and that is because it is not.

I've read each statement you have written through your whole thread and frankly im not impressed with your logic at all. Your kind of arrogant about how great of a driver you think you are, hugh. Your not actually saying it....but if you read between the lines you think pretty highly of yourself.

I'm done with this thread because its turning into insults with zero facts and even more opinion. I'm going to guarantee that YOU can not FULLY drive YOUR car with 500+whp.
wow. sounds like your saying everyone on this forum can't drive. that's pretty dumb to say. Evo drivers cover the spectrum from novice to pro drivers. i wont lie, i am new at having a fast car, but if you keep a cool head and drive planning ahead on the road, you are ok. alot of people get evos and start out not being awesome at driving. thats why their are track days. hell, find an empty lot and place some cones out there. i have friends that are cops and they would let me use an old parking lot for a bit (they would want a turn though). plus, i feel bad for you guys getting watched by the fuzz so much. i drive about 50 miles to work one way and cruise at around 95 on the interstate. the state troopers do too. guess its the relaxed south. in closing, i dont think you are an ***, i just dont think you should judge everyone on here so quickly. the guy running 9s in the 1/4 seems to know his stuff. just give them a chance............500+ DD FTW!!

I wish my girl would understand that
