Ah, cool. What I don't know about electricity could fill a (huge) book. Thanks for clarifying.

Just so people are aware, this would be illegal in SCCA competition. They do not allow batteries in the passenger compartment.
I would still like to see that bracket produced some more, maybe for a trunk install application or something.
The perfect place would be where the emmisions items are in the rear. It would fit that battery perfect

I figured out prices for the kit. The full kit includes:
1-600 cold cranking amp,(12lbs) sealed dry cell battery
2-full 4 guage wiring with grommets, sealant and wire ties
3-necessary high amp rating fuse and holder
4-custom built steel cage bracket including all necessary hardware
5-full detailed instructions on installation

cost is $300 for the full kit
partial kit includes battery and custom bracket-$200

One thing I must say is that this kit is not designed to work with high performance stereo systems. This includes big amps that drain battery power. This battery is also not designed to run your radio with the car not running for as long a time as the stock battery. I need to make a list for people interested in the kit so pm me if you're interested. Thanks!

Don't most german cars have the battery in the passenger compartment? usually under the rear seat.

This is a great mod! Less weight over all and a lower CG and more balance to the rear.

ummm ... I relocated the battery on my STi under the passenger seat .. and the bracket plus battery was only about $115 from here:

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/

It is the PC680 battery plus aluminum hold down ... bracket is much nicer as well.

Just an FYI .. not trying to rain on your parade. your install looks good. I just thought that others might want to know the options.

I would recomend it to anyone . It is a noticeable difference in handling.

It is not illegal by SCCA rules if it is completely enclosed in a compartment that is vented .. but not to the passenger area ... that requires a bit more work. .. I used to have an Eagle Talon rally car with the battery behind the driver's seat.

that's nice! so...do you have any pics of the engine bay now? i know there are benifits from moving the battery back there...but are you going to put anything in the new space you have? just wondering.

To my knowledge most bmw's have their batteries in the trunk. My e36 m3, friends z4, and cousins e46 m3 all have the batteries in the trunk. Also since the bmw batteries are huge(sumthing like 50lbs) and are not sealed it wouldn't be feasible to place it in the passenger area.

On another note I was thinking about relocating the battery of my STi to the trunk also, but was wondering if there are ne ill effects in doing so. In other words would relocating the battery to say the trunk have ne detrimental effects on the car's electrical system( the current would have to travel further than it would normally). Not too well informed on electrical systems so maybe you guys can help.

Also summit racing also sells a battery relocation kit for like $40 and it also comes with a battery box
