Is it worth it to buy a IX over a VIII? (interior)
i love everything about the ix over the viii honestly from the interior to the wheels, front bumper and mivec.... both are great cars don't get me wrong but if you have the money get a ix but if you want to build a race car or track car get an viii
I was happy with the interior of my IX for about a week. I knew it wasn't going to be a luxury car but the rattles and cheap materials are disappointing. If interiors are a priority for you I wouldn't buy a Mitsubishi. If you are set on an VIII or IX then certainly the IX is the superior interior.
That kills me drop, you are buying a street legal race car, what did you really expect?
To my knowledge, 90% of the people who have purchased an EVO did not buy it for its refinement or quiet ride.
Do you really think that an STI would be any better? I know that's not what you are referring to but there are few cars in the price range that can hold a candle to the EVO's all around capabilities.
Im also not saying that the EVO is the best car in the world, by no means but for what it is and what it has proven to do, it's a great race car in all aspects.

2003lancerevo8, like I said I wasn't expecting a luxury interior but let's face it compared to a Honda or Toyota interior Mitsu is way behind. Yes I've heard the STi is worse. Interior wasn't a priority for me when I bought it and it still isn't. The original poster seemed like interior quality was important to them I just wanted to let them know that I found it rather cheap feeling and had lots of rattles. Just my opinion and I think many share it. Not knocking the evo.
out of most cars in the market let me tell you i love my ix Recaros and the only thing i would swap them out for would be some bride low max and i would put the in another car i love those seats!
The first time I punched it in first gear the seat back inclined all the way back suddenly and I would have ended up in the back and crashed if I didn't have such a death grip on the wheel. Hasn't happened since though. Love the way they look and feel.

Drop24 the STI was like driving around in a fast lazyboy chair.
The seats were very comfortable and the interior is put together as if to say "YEs this is an STI not a imprezza WRX. I was deciding between the sti and the evo IX when i got mine it came down to how much more of a viceral experience i get when driving the evolution. The STI gave you a feeling that things are happening in the backround. I may be a fuddy duddy bot i felt like If i press my foot down the car should give me what is intended. The STI to me felt like it was trying to make me feel comfortable. In cases like a sports car i want to feel every pebble. If i wanted to have comfort i would not be choosing the evo but the Recaros help alot. The bilstiens in the MR feel quite comfotable at speed while continuing to maintain a nice handling charachteristic. My bud Has an 07 sti and would joke about how his sisters lancer es interior is more comfortable than my car. I was looking for lighter and quicker. His fat *** can't fit within the bolsters of the USDM recaros of my car. I told him imagine if i got the JDM recaros which are a little bit lighter and a lotta bit narrower feeling. I feel the interior is cheap. But functional (with the exception of my "mitsu carbon fiber dash" this to me does nothing and will soon be covered with alcantara yippy!!") I love the looks of my MR. with the red stitch and i have the i think is redundant and useless "zero lift package". If you want to race i would suggest and IX RS or VII RS. Coming from a 350z i would say go for an SE package or an MR IX it will give you back some creature comforts that you will miss from the 350z like a radio and power windows lol. One thing if you want to feel pain drive a base model scion XA from albany to Long Island. That car is way to stiff.. eat on the gass but stiff as all hell.

the recaros feel SO NICE. You will love them in the 9. But ya when I'm driving the evo and look at my stereo or dash, i think how cheap it is, but idc. Upgrade your factory stereo w/ an in dash dvd or something then and maybe a few gauges and your satisfied. get a 9!!
I'm putting a vote in for VIII. Honestly whatever you can get the best deal on.
A few reasons on the VIII.
A) The cars have a TON of upgrade parts if you plan on modding. So does the IX, but the VIII has a bit more.
B) (and this is a big one), the transfer case is stronger / more durable. Rally, and race drivers switch to the VIII transfer case in their IX's for durability. The ACD is great, but it is a weak link. It's been harder and harder to find VIII transfer cases because they are all being bought up.
C) Interior can be changed. I'd rather spend another ~$1k on seats than lose a t.case or ACD.
D) The VIII is easier to tune if you're into tuning yourself. Mivec can be a pain in the *** sometimes.
With that being said, make SURE you buy an 04 or newer VIII. As the 03 has issues with 5th gear not getting enough oil and breaking up.
As far as the interior goes... do what I did. Buy the low glossy carbon fiber from Rexpeed, and a REGULAR lancer radio bezel. The bezel is the same grey color as the rest of your dash. That + carbon fiber looks so sweet. That way you can put your gauges where they need to be, in front of you where the radio used to be and put your radio below.
Both are good cars, just depends what you want to do with it. If you're going to joy ride you'll be just fine with a VIII, IX, or X.
