Disappointed Potential Evo Onwer
Though I havent posted in a long while, ive been keeping up with the developments. In recent weeks, I had finally been ready to take the plunge and get the Evo. But, especially of late, I dont think it is any longer a wise decision. The 03s seem to be problem-prone (the rust issue says ALOT), and the dealers are certainly being uncooperative, in both pre- and post- purchace relations.
I for one have been a die-hard fan of the Evo for nearly 4 years now, and was totally ecstatic that it was coming to America, the thought of owning a legend was totally unreal. Even without the gizmos, its certainly proved to be an awesome car. However, seeing its current situation, I think it is safer to just wait for the 04s, seeing as how ive waited as it is.
I am truly disappointed at Mitsubishi's quality control, and especially their customer relations, in general regarding the Evo more than anything else. Hopefully they will turn this around by the 04 model, as corp and dealer alike adjust to selling this different level of vehicle. For a flagship car, they certainly do not treat it like one. In the meantime, I will still be shopping around, but chances are slim, and the dealers are certainly not help sway me towards buying one.
On a side note, any word on the 04s, esp release date?

Wow, if you think the '03 Evo had poor quality control - don't even think about owning a new Mustang GT or late model Camaro SS. I owned both of those cars in the last 2 years, and I can't even begin to tell you all the low quality crap points on those cars.
The rust really isn't that big of an issue, especially since it's been identified so early. It's just surface at this point, and can EASILY be dealt with.
Do whatever you're comfortable with though, I just think if the quality control on the Evo bothers you - you're going to be hard pressed to find a performance car you're happy with.

Actually I've talked to atleast 10 friends of mine wanting to purchase and Evolution. After their investigation throughout the website, that decision changed dramatically. Honestly, it seems that Mitsubishi is a very unreliable car, from the Flywheel and so forth. The engine is probably the only thing that we can brag about.

I really don't think this site makes a fair representation of the Evo's overall quality.
There are like 5-10 Evo owners (out of the 14000 registered users of this site) who do 99% of the complaining. There are lots and lots of trouble free Evo's out there. But those people don't post up on the board, because they are too busy enjoying themselves behind the wheel.
If a person takes this site as the Evo bible, and solicits no other opinions when they consider their purchase, they are very myopic in their research methodology.
yellwtyper, It is my perception that when people give excuses for why they aren't buying something, regardless of what their excuse is, it usually turns out that they can't afford to buy the car or their credit score keeps them from getting a loan. So take your 10 friends unanimous opinions with a grain of salt.

ok, I'm gonna say this again..... For every person that posts a problem, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of very satisfied people with no problems. Its a fact that people are going to post problems rather than "hey guys, just letting you know that my car is running great and I haven't had any problems." Thats the main purpose of the forum, to discuss problems and modifications. So in a way, this encourages people to post every little "issue" and that allows people that don't own an evo to blow to be like
and turn these minor "issues" into some GIANT problem. do as you wish, but you wont be dissapointed with the evo.

. I have lots of friends with Mustangs too and they don't have problems with their cars either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that Ford is the pinnacle of automotive perfection - because we all know it ain't - but they aren't bad for the money. Just like the Evo. It's a $30K sports car that performs and is pretty much unbeatable in its price range. Of course, you don't see all my Ford friends posting about how good their doors fit - they'll only post when they don't fit!

The previous Evolution versions were made in the same place that the US Evo 8 is made. They're put through the exact same quality control as they have always been. You just didn't have 14,000 worldwide Evo owners in the same place (the forums) where they could complain about every little thing, even if it wasn't really a problem. Did you really think that every single Evo owner drove his car in the same environmental conditions, through the same roads, and removed the same pieces to get the same rust? It's impossible to say because one person had this particular problem that EVERYONE will have it. What if it was a isolated incidient.
2nd... the '04 model has already been discussed. If you're waiting for it to be some magical new car, or have all these so called problems fixed, you're dreaming. The '04 model will be the same as it is now, just '04 on the label, and have the recall insulation done already. That's it. You'll just wait for nothing.
Buy the Evo now. Enjoy it now. Worry about any actual problems you experience as you go along. You'll have less with the Evo than most any other car that you can buy. Don't take what is said on this forum negative, but a positive, because you have a strong support group for anything Evo related.

No problems on my 03.
That's so funny with the "Rust Issue" - Demi-God Al (been entertained by him for the past few years already on i-club/nasioc/evom) makes a post, puts some spin on his words, choosing those that he KNOWS will get a reaction and now we have Evos turning into rust buckets with Al saying that surface rust is going to eat his bumper support in one year (the one he removed to weigh..
. Throw in some Crash Issues and now you have an "Issue" =)

You're a fence sitter. You're going to wait, and wait, and wait until this Magical Car appears that is absolutely perfect - and even the mighty (and sometimes evil) Internet Forums can't make it seem like junk!

How can you claim this in good conscience knowing full well YOU DONT HAVE AN EVO ? ? ? ? ? You have NO EXPERIENCE with "customer relations" or "quality control" on the Evo. Don't be dissappointed when others are filling your head with garbage...try it out yourself and dont be a sheep.

Flagship car? The EVO...yeah right. The BMW 750 is a Flagship Car. The Merc S600 or Maybach is a Flagship Car. This is an inexpensive sports car that Mitsu decided we might be able to handle, but from the amount of crabbing us 'Muricans do....
You just keep shopping around. In the mean time I will be continuing to enjoy my 03 Evo.
(oh yeah..off soapbox

many people just post problems.theydont post for ex.how a zo6 tray to stay with me on a wet road course and could not or how i teke the turns on the way to my house at 110-115 and the car just sticks.no car is perfect bot the pros are a lot havier than the cons have a good day.
Supah Fly, don't let minor flaws on the car preventing you from owning it. Every cars have flaws. Even a Ferrari has some flaws. If these flaws scare you away, you never going to own any cars. Make up your mind and drive your future car out from the dealer lot.
Up until now, I never have any regrets to drive this car out from the dealer lots. The more I drive it, the more I fell in love with the car.

Of course this forum os full of "negative issues". This is where everyone comes to ask advice for problems that other EVO owners may have had . There are many EVO owners, such as me. who have had nothing but good experiences with my car and my dealer. Wheever I show up for service, or just drive in with a question, the guy who sold me the car and the manager come running outside and ask me how it's driving, am I enjoying it, and the service tech's are great. I love Mitsu. Nothing but good things for me. As far as the car, I have had absolutely no problems. I don't race stoplight to stoplight but I do get on it when the opportunity is there. Don't pay too much attention to all that mumbo jumbo. Drive it yourself before you go jumping to conclusions. Make your own decision.
