Warranty question...
Warranty question...
i read somewhere (i think C&D) that in order for a manufactuer to void your warranty due to not using specific oils / fluids, they must provide them free of charge...?
is this true...? if so, then that means the dealers would have to provide the Mobil 1 oil free...?

i think it only applies to air intake things??? i think that becuase it came up once awhile ago on another car i had.
i.e. -- they need to replace the air filters for free to not have it voided by replacing it with like a K&N

I thought the wording on the evo warranty was that the specific motor failure had to be a cause of using the non-synthetic oil, i.e. cylinder walls being scored from inadequate lubrication or something similar.
It is part of the fair trade act. Of which, the Magnusson-Moss warranty act is also a part. If I am not mistaken, there is not one piece of Mitsu literature which states that you must use Mobile 1.

First thing, the oil cap says Mobil 1 Recomended, and only the US models say that. The JDM EVO's don't "require" Synthetics, they just recomend them. As for us here in the USA they want you to use them do to our driving habbits, and temps here in the States. At least that is what the Mitsubishi Video said that I had to watch prior to buying the car. You can use any synthetic oil, hell you can use dyno oil if you want, but if you have a lubrication issure that caused a breakdown then your *** out. Anyone that has a turbo car and doesn't use synthetics should not drive a turbo car! Synthetics and Turbo go hand an hand. Don't read to much into things, if you spend this much for a car, regardless of turbo or no, wouldn't you want to use synthetics anyway? To me its a cheap investment.

When I called MMUSA to ask if my car was recalled, I asked about modifications. THe representative said that only mitsusbishi parts done at a mitsubishi dealer will be honored warranty. Once you mod anything, warranty is gone. I asked what if I changed rims, and he said that the warranty would be voided. I also asked aobut changing the tailights, and he said the same thing. THen I told him that these mods were cosmetic and had nothing to do with the powertrain. Therefore, if something went wrong witht he engine after I changed rims, the warranty would be voided even though rims have nothing to do with the engine failing. I then brought up the M-Moss Law and he discredited it. THerefore, if I wanted gauges, I would have to get the ****ty ones from mitsubishi. But I dont believe Mitsu has a turbo timer.
I think that it was just this representative that was stubborn and unknowledgeable because he told me that this model has no recalls because it just came out. I told him that there is indeed a recall.

I work at a dealer in md. if u change the rims, the only thing that can be voided is anything directly related to that, i.e. wheel bearings, suspension, etc. also, magnuson-moss states that it can only be voided if proven the part caused the failure. engine warranty wouldnt be touched, besides, if u are planning to swap out the taillights to evo vii style, its a genuine mitsu part, aint nothing they can do
