floor jack

For those of you who use floor jacks, what do you do to prevent your lifting points from looking like this

the lift points are closer to the front wheels, where the sheet metal is folded in a multi-layered fashion. Otherwise, go from the front center jack point.

What jack do you use that reaches all the way under the car to the center jack point?

To prevent the lift points from ending up that way, don't use those lift points. Pretty much any low profile floor jack can reach the pseudo frame rails just inside the factory lift points. Those frame rail things take a bit of a beating but with the right pad on the jack, it doesn't hurt them at all.

I got a steel/aluminum low profile floor jack from HF that reaches the front lift point with no problem. It has an 18" extended height and cost me 115 bucks I think. It's high enough that you can lift the car, put it on stands, and slide the tranny out the side which, in place of a lift, is about all you would need a jack for.

I use a block of 2x4 wood has a cushion. That prevents alot of those dented areas.

2x4 for me too, if i want to get to the front center jack point i first jack up by the tire, then hold it up with a stand then put the jack in position for the front center point

You can use a hockey puck, 2x4 block of wood, or hard folded cardboard (is what i use and works like a charm, I found out the hard way like you too when I first did one corner.

I dont use anything...but mine doesnt look nearly that bad. Maybe its just your jack. Does it have a small seat that contacts the car?

My floor jack has a cushion on top. Ive only used it 3 or 4 times so far and my jack points look the same way as they were when the car was brand new.

Well the jack I used has a solid plastic jack head so there's not much cushion for the car. That's really all I need to prevent the jack points from looking like that, a better cushion.

I was just watching Tropic Thunder and immediately thought of "Simple Jack" when I saw this thread.

But yeah if yo have to use a 2x4 as a cushion, BUT be careful. I did that once and the 2X4 brok and the jack slipped and the car fell a good 4 inches. The rear window shattered and the jack nearly went through the bottom. Huge bump in the front seat foot area. Luckily this was not in my evo.
