Question Question about fixing stainless pipe

Hello all,

I was wondering if the some of you guys may know how to fix a dent from stainless steel exhaust pipe. I have a feeling that performance won't be hurt, but if it is easy enough then I'll fix it. Take a look at the pics to see what I'm talking about. Thanks

Gotcha. Fixing SS is a huge pain b/c of how strong it is. I'd leave it be. Are you trying to sell it or did you get it that way?

I'd leave it. Chances are you'd crack it trying to bend it back.

In order to fix that you'd probably have to cut the pipe, heat it up and use a pipe expander to get it back to round.

Try to push it out with a pry bar, or you can try to heat it up and put something in it thats kind of got the same shape... I dont think it would mess the performance of the exaust though...

What you can do is try a pipe expander (sold at most parts stores), it may work it may not. What I would do though is tig weld a series of small rods along the line of the dent and use a dent puller to gradually raise the area. Then cutoff wheel the small vertical rods, sand flush, and polish. If this seems like a lot of work it is. In all actualilty you wont notice a performance difference just leaving the dent the way it is.

Carefully heat up the area then insert a baseball bat(of course that you wont mind getting slightly burnt) then gently tap the area affected. I've done this several times and it works wonders. The dent does not appear deep enough to effect performance however; we are all about worrying about this kinda stuff, so just repeat my procedure and it will work itself out. Only worry is getting the area too hot, which is not that much of a worry. Get a MAP torch at your local hardware(HDepot,Low-s,etc) heat the area until cherry(colour) hot then apply the bat gently tapping..there you go..

Thanks, I was think of using a metal pipe I have from my cloths hanger(I hang dry my shirts I don't want shrinking), but a wooden bat is better.
