well you are supposed to wait til the temp needle starts to rise before you start driving...it says that in the owner's manual somewhere...it's not totally necessary but it is good practice...i usually let mine warm up for about 3-5 min in the winter time before i leave at 5am each morning

See if you can find it in the manual. I'm pretty positive it just says like I said, that it isn't a big deal if you aren't driving hard. My manual on this car says not to go past 4k RPMs until the heat is past the 3rd "bar". S2000s will actually lock you out of going into VTEC until they are warm enough (at least, our '00 did). Most cars can start up and drive just fine, it is the cold starting that hurts them the most (since the oil is flowing a lot less smoothly at that point), once the pistons are moving, they are moving, as long as you stay out of boost and below 3k, you should be fine (that's what I always did). I'm interested to see if the manual says that it should be warmed up, as I recall the rule for the Evos was to wait until the needle started to rise before getting into boost.

I have a buscher with cams and it shakes the house when idling in the garage. Your car is loud. The exhaust is loud, the valvetrain is loud, your freaking timing belt is loud. Get used to it. As for the neighbors? Screw em if they think it is too loud. They are just jealous anyway.

If they complain your car is to loud than complain that there dog barking is to loud, even if it's untrue.

I have a neighbor who has a mini-monster truck. The thing is a midsized truck but it sounds like a monster truck. I have another neighbor with Harleys.

My Evo is stock exhaust for now. Later I plan for a Perrin TBE. The only person I am worried about waking up when I leave at 5:20 in the morning is my son. All my other neighbors are not worried about waking him up when they start their rides so when he gets older and I have my exhaust they will be sure to hear it. I’ll make sure of that.

Other than the silencer idea though I do not see another way of quieting an exhaust.

Warm up the car for 10-20 seconds and then drive. Most of the damage is done during the start up. You just want the oil to circulate and lube up the parts and then drive. That actually happens pretty quick.

But make sure you do normal driving and avoid boost especially WOT untill the engine fully warms up.

"keep your garage door closed" how about sticking a hose in the tailpipe and sticking the other end thru your window into the cabin. that will def lower the noise level dude just start the car, roll down the street to somewhere you can just sit there until ready

Thats pretty much correct once the pistons are moving they are moving. The only catch as you mentioned is to not to push the motor hard when driving it cold till it warms up. I disagree with 3k as a rev limit thats just way to low IMHO. I cold start and immediately drive my car everyday I can tell you that you wont be seeing the limit of the oil pump until about 4.5k maybe even 5k. After that its going to start bypassing oil due to pressure.

If you guys are really worried about cold starting so much just use a better oil like 0-30w amsoil.

You're probably right, I was just overly paranoid because it was my first car that didn't lock me out when it was too cold, and since the S2k locked out around 4.5k (if I remember right...) on the scale from 0 to 9k I figured 3k was good on the scale of 0 to 7k.

absolutely do not let the car run in the garage with it closed. you'll fill your garage and probably your house with carbon monoxide.
