how to keep car quiet when warming up?

I just bought a house in a posh neighborhood. The houses are kind of close to each other. When warming up the evo 1-2 minutes, (its like 10 degrees here in the mornings) I would like to keep the disturbing of the neighbors to a minimum. Currently I have a fujitsubo exhaust which at times is as quiet as stock. Any suggestions on how to make it even quieter during warm up sans a baffle/silencer. I like my neighbors but not enough to eliminate some power.
Do you guys think a cardboard box open side near the exhaust would work? a worn out tshirt over the exhaust? would that cause too much back pressure? thanks in advance...

Yea, keep it closed, since that is real safe. You could just stick a silencer in the exhaust during warm up and take it out right before you leave. Or get a Cobb catback which is stock even with a test pipe.

alright...this is what you need to do...works amazingly!

i assume you already have turbo back exhaust, as i'm not familiar with fujitsubo...Get a 3 inch electric cutout and put it on your test pipe....then put a silencer on your exhaust and leave it on so when your at the track racing you can open that cut out and let your car be nice and loud! or get a stock catback like me...

i have a ebay 3" down pipe and test pipe with a qtp 3 inch electric cutout in the test pipe....my car is louder than an S.O.B.!....sometimes after people have been in my car with the cutout open and i close it they have said before "did you kill it" or "did your car just die" haha my car sounds so quite after being in the car with the cutout open

thats one solution...and boy i tell you what! you would love having a cutout, i sure do!

ur exhaust is already quiet so don't worry about it too much. If anything just let it warm up for like 30 seconds then start driving.

yeah i was on the floor laughing with this comment ofcourse he will be the first vulture to want parts from his car when his wife sells the car to pay for his funeral. oh come on man, use your brains.

oh sorry back on topic....

people get so worried about warming up the car. drive it away right away. even in the coldest morning(in NJ), i start it up and drive it a block(creeping in 2nd gear). i respect my neighbor but doesnt mean i have to care about the people 2 blocks away hehe

im in your boat, i only drive my EVO Sunday mornings leaving my house between 5-6am, my exhaust is catless, with cams very loud.
the first startup in the garage echo's throughout the neighborhood, my wife doesn't like it either because the garage is under our bedroom.
i say f the neighbors and what they think about my car, if they could do it like we did they would. huh?

i'm not saying sit it there while it's running. who the hell warms their car and sits there in the freaking cold. only takes a couple of minutes to warm up.

Yea, just start it and roll out...I have a lil ways before I leave the house to get to the main road so I take it easy and keep out of boost until temp needle start's moving.

He is not asking "What do you do?" He asked what can I do to make things quite when warming up my evo?" I think the silencer is your best solution.

I am **** when it comes to warming up my evo. Water temp needs to be at 1/4 before I even put it in gear. So warm up is important to some evo owners who really care about their cars.

I have a detached garage and a Compustar alarm. When I am about a few mins from leaving a start the car, let it idle in the garage, when I go down stairs to take my dog out and have a ciggerette I'll open the garage. By the time he's back in the house and I get in my car it's been 5 minutes, needle is pretty much in the middle and car is good to go.

As far as making your car quieter, I have a Buschur and yeah, it's loud during warm up and my neighbors probably hate it, but oh well. Life goes on.

I've wondered about this as well, I've tried putting the silencer in while the car warms up and remove it when I'm ready to go but that's too much work, the things get stuck in there and all that.

Not sure about you get-in-and-go guys, I'm in MI and for example this morning it was -6F outside. Not gonna happen, car runs really rough if you try to take off right away, and why take chances on causing excessive wear on something you plan to race?

Don't get me wrong, if I drive anything else work vehicles or what not, I get in and go, but not the Evo

The silencer does work nicely though, very quiet

My garage has the wife's car and my s2000. The driveway is narrow so I cant keep the s2000 in the driveway as it will block either the evo or her car. I reverse them in the summer as I drive the s2000 more often so I will keep her out and the evo in the garage.

I guess the silencer is the only option. Oh as for the person who thinks I sit in the car while its warming up, I dont. I go back in, drink a warm coffee eat breakfast and then leave for work.
