I'm on the opposite side of the fence. I have a gsr and sometimes wish I had gotten the MR.

When I was researching and then eventually buying my car I had said early on the I would not be getting an MR due to the tranny issues. To be honest I looked at the MRs and said what's the big deal about them other than the HIDs (My thought on the HIDs was that I wanted JDM headlights so it was a null point). I only wanted a Wicked White IX, so my only other options were a RS (Was not even considering), GSR, SSL. (THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE SE IN WICKED WHITE)

I eventually found a GSR with 10k miles, stock, clean as ****. This was before the whole financial crisis went out of control and at the time I was under the impression that if I didn't buy in a few months I would never get a low mile IX (Which is clearly not the case anymore). So I bought the car and I had it shipped from florida.

Then I got the car and a month or two later reality struck me. I wasn't made of money. The JDM evo8 MR headlights, Volk ce28ns/Advan RS, hid kit or stock hid setup cost a lot of money and won't happen right away. So was going with the GSR over the MR the right thing to do considering the tranny might not break? Was potentially saving 3-4k on a tranny replacement worth it for getting a less visually appealing stock spec?

I really do not know and every once in a while I do think about it over and over...

I should also mention that I will be taking this car to track events and autox.

I bought the IX MR new and with 100K mile warranty on the drivetrain, I'm all set. I kept mine stock btw. I was planning to store it so it will have low miles but what is fun of owning an evo if you don't drive it. The SSL was nice but the purist nature of the MR and its price is what made me decide to get it.

Im just wondering... I have an MR and for some odd reason its always in the back of my head.. Why didnt i get a GSR.. I guess the whole tranny issue bothers me a little bit. But than again its not that big of an issue lol..

Let me know..

P.S. sorry about the title..

I had a evo ix MR and I went through the same thing as well and to be honest it killed me for a long time. I ended u getting an RS and iam completely happy with the decision I made.

why spend thousands more on a vehicle that does not give you more hp, and only offers you a basic suspension, a nice set of wheels, and a vortex generator, oh and i almost forgot the 6speed tranny.

the way i see it just like some people would , is you can buy all these parts dirt cheap compared to the retail prices that come on a new car or a shop would sell them at. buying them on the forums for thousands less and being happy with the tranny that you have.

Mine's not an MR but I'm just glad I picked it although I like the looks of the MR. I know I can always get the looks but it can never be the MR so why bothered.

I love my MR. I hit boost every chance I get, I shift hard/fast every time. Yea, sometimes I get a little noise (don't want to call it a grind because it's not really a grind) when I downshift into 3rd fast, but that's more the single disc clutch than anything.

I love my car. If I could go back and do it again I might consider the SE, but I probably would still end up in an MR.

I love my MR as well and I wouldn't choose any other model. No problems yet for me other than the tranny makes a lil noise (no grinds) but so does every other Evo tranny. I would choose the SE as well but only for the red stitched Recaro's.

I dont regret it one bit.

I had the chance to get a WW GSR b4 i got my GG MR.
I didnt like it too much and wanted the Hids, BBS rims, and Bilsteins, so MR is what I chose.

I'm at 450+ whp now and it's held up perfectly.
Even after 7-8 autocrosses, i've had no problems. *kow...
Still shifts like the day i got it.

I plan on doing some PDX/HPDE in the future, so we will see.
if it does go, I'll just get the Shep 5spd. or do the 6spd upgrade.

Sounds like the MR SE would have been a good choice for you then. I really like the 5spd because if need be, you can change the gearing at final drive for better cruising, and still have a strong tranny. I wouldn't worry though, until it breaks. Deal with it then...
