heated mirrors
does the regular lancer have a heated mirror option? if yes, will it fit the evo9? i think the front doors are the same...., so it is an issue of extra wires and a relay/switch, no?

You can buy the mirrors from canadien dealers, or so i was told. the problem is you have to rewire the mirrors in for the controllers or splice an extra wiring harness to make it work. A friend was looking to do it but he had a hard time trying to source a door wire harness or something.
would be great to have but i wouldn't pay all that money to do all that. It's definitely not a swap and go kind of deal from what i was told.

I recall reading that the Evo IS prewired for the heated mirrors.
I just did a little research and discovered that there is a fuse for heated mirrors on my car.
If it's like the other cars I own, putting on the rear window defogger will also heat the mirrors.
I'm still trying to trace the connectors that go into the doors and get a breakdown of what each wire does.
On a side note, my manual (and the reference sticker on the car) say that fuse #18 is for the dome light, but my car has no #18 fuse and my dome light works just fine.
I even pulled the sunroof fuse to see if it was paired with the dome and it was not.
So I have an extra fuse for heated mirrors that I don't have and a missing fuse for a dome light that works just fine.
(and no, the extra fuse does not control the dome light either)

IIRC, only Canadian-market Ozs & Ralliarts came with them.
Yes, our USDM Lancers & Evos are prewired for heated mirrors... kinda.
For those with Factory Service Manuals - all the wiring & connector info is in there.
Easy part is obtaining the mirrors themselves & figuring where to splice the required extra wires into the USDM harness - can buy the heated mirror assemblies from any US or Canadian Mitsu dealership, and sometimes they can be found in Canadian junkyards.
How to wire 'em so they'll work, though... therein lies the problem.
Since those heated mirrors have more wires, they use different wiring harness connectors. Options for getting 'em wired up are:
1) obtain entire CDN heated mirror wiring harnesses: use 'em to replace the USDM section from the mirrors to the junction block. (Best, cleanest option)
2) obtain CDN heated mirror wiring harnesses: use the USDM wires to pull the CDN ones through the harness/wraps, and then splice the necessary 'extra' wires into their correct tap points on the USDM harness.
3) obtain CDN harness connectors for the mirrors: use 'em to replace the ends on the USDM mirror harnesses, then run the necessary extra wires through the USDM wiring loom/harness to their USDM harness tap/splice points.
4) attempt to use the USDM harness ends: splice new wires directly into the CDN heated mirrors (the 'extra' wires will bypass the pigtail/connector), run the new extra wires through the USDM harness/loom, then splice 'em into their correct harness tap points.
5) cut off the heated mirror connectors, connect all wires directly to the heated mirrors, then run the new 'extra' wires through the USDM harness/loom & splice 'em into their correct tap points. (least-preferred option - it'll be messy, ugly & a tight fit, but work.)
Personally, I've had no luck trying to obtain either CDN harnesses or the connectors themselves, and decided not to try jury-rigging this 'mod.'

Thanks EvoGLH. I have been browsing the service manual diagrams and checking wires in my car. Have you seen the wiring harness on the heated mirror? I would guess that it is only one or two wires extra.

Heated mirrors are controlled by the rear defogger circuit.
I have an early (March) '03, and have 3-wire mirror connectors. However, I have seen 7-wire connectors on another early (Feb or March build) '03 Evo ... unfortunately, all attempt to obtain the mirror harnesses/connectors from him failed.
Since my Canadian buddies aren't willing to partially disassemble their cars for me
, I've been limited to using the FSMs & WinCAPS to figure wiring, connector & circuit/controller differences. No junkyard in the Windsor, Ontario area has been willing to let me look at a wrecked RA/OZ myself (let alone pull the parts myself), and the prices they've quoted me for the harnesses are nothing short of robbery.

I checked the connector running into the door and none are for heated mirrors.
