read the first post not suprised..... i've actually seen this about 6 times either from knowing people who have done it or just people who got it done by some shop/garage. Pull old filter off o ring sticks up there, put new filter/oring on without realizing the old oring is still up in the housing. Most a place would do is clean it all up nice and get you another oil change.

the dealership gave me a free oil change and they documented the incident and if the car has a problem due to the oil starvation they will fix it even after the warranty expires.

That's good that they did something for you. I think they should have given you a free detail to get all the oil off from under your car and a wax just for customer satisfaction purposes. But at least your covered if you start hearing a bearing noise or what not, but I doubt anything will happen.

I just bring my car to the dealer because of the precious warranty I'm trying to hold on to. Otherwise, no way.

Heck, I did that once when I changed oil myself on my Odyssey, was fast and furious while doing the job, so thus half assed and missed it..........leaving trail of oil everywhere, knew when my buddy whom was trailing me on the freeway got a car windshield full of oil on his STi later on....hahah.......

Figured out why after and re-did it...............

So much for Mitsubishi dealer's ASE certified moron mechanics in your case huh????????

Im a casual mechanic...

I make it a habit to wipe off old oil from the drain and filter adapter.
This way i would "find" any left over rings.

I would definately make the dealer cover cost of clean up and damages, as well as do the oil changes my self, heres a little tip I use before i start take the oil cap off and put it on the latch so i remeber to put oil in it, pull the dipstick up so i remember to chech it and put some ordinary washer on my pinky to remind me of the gasket to i remeber to change and tighten the drain plug... hope it helps, my wife calls it my inner evo ocd.

You guyz should check out mitsu Bahrain it took them a month and a half to tell me what my maf sensor was, told me that my car had knock because a used a greddy type R BOV "ur BOV valve was blocked was what they said", left all my vacuum hoses disconnected after putting in a new turbo for me and left a bolt opened so my turbo kept leaking oil for a couple of months till I discovered it when i was changing my clutch at a proper shop. Know my car wouldn’t make more than 10 psi. Talk about "Certified Technicians".

Evo VII can't wait tell get the new evo 9 turbo on my car next sat =)
