Start up problem & service engine light

I started my car after I got out of work, it didn't want to start at first and made some kinda grinding & misfire sound.. I checked the engine oil and it looked a little below the line so I added more oil.. Then it started ok after but the service engine light turned on. I drove it home and waited about 2 hours.. Checked the oil which is now over the line a little bit, it turned over fine and the service engine light wasn't showing anymore. I was thinking if this problem had to do with the mobil 1 5-30 oil i'm using.. Should I change to a different kind of oil ASAP?

I work next to a mechanic shop, and during my break time one of the guys over there told me that it sounded like something was wrong with my starter when he heard my car yesterday. It does it once in a while, not really everyday though. Should I look into changing my starter to be safe?

I have the same problem, it's the starter. Change it asap cause it can mess up the flywheel

I just tried to start it and all I hear is the whine from the starter motor, but the engine isn't making the turning over sound at all.

Sounds like the armature in the starter motor is no longer engaging into the flywheel. Logic says replace the starter

I'm getting a new starter by the end of the week, I also bought Redline MT-90 for the tranny and Redline 75-90 GL-5 for the Transfer case & diff. Also got some new NGK BPR7ES plugs!

Dunno about where you live but most auto part chains no longer provide code readers. They were involved in a ton of lawsuits over people pulling codes and replacing parts that did not resolve the issue so most decided to only offer them in store for purchase.
