Reliability issues?
The reliability and performance level of a car have nothing to do with eachother.
Just because the U.S. Lancer is not a supercar, does not mean that it is not reliable.
I used the U.S. Lancer as an example because it is Mitsu's latest car. Sure they have had reliability issues in the past, but a lot of things have changed with that company in the past few years. Maybe quality of parts and design have been improved...they sure as hell improved sales.

Thnx for the info guys. So the bearings and connecting rods go bad and that causes the excessive play in the crank? sounds like using better rods and stronger parts would fix the problem, what do you thnk??
Guack,
The thrust bearing at the end of the crank goes bad. It carries the pressure when you step on the clutch. Crank walk is when the crank starts sliding back and too much. If you press the clutch on a badly crank walking dsm the motor may stall.
Ever notice on a cold morning that your rpm drop a bit when you press in the clutch? This can happen on any car. This is a thrust bearing taking the load.
AWD cars are going to have more reliability problems than say a RWD just because they have more moving parts. That being said Mitsubishi has had more then their share of reliability problems on all of their cars. Enough problems that people have created Mitsubishi hate sites. From the limited amount that I have read so far it doesnt look as if the EVO has faired very well either. Clutch problems seem to be fairly common on low mile EVO's. I have also heard of AYC problems.

I would also like to here more about the reliability of these cars. I am gonna wait one more year though cause I will never buy a first year car.
What are some of the things that most of you are expecting to go wrong or need replacing. I know that this car has alot of extra gadgets and gizmos
so there is that much more to go wrong.
Please fill me in. Is it just the maintinence, replacing plugs and letting the engine run for awhile after spirited driving, with a turbo engine or the evo itself?????

But in this case the Evo has been out for 10 years. The VII has been out for a year or so itself. Even though the U.S. will see the Evo for the 1st time, it will essentially be the same car as the J spec VII. It might be even more reliable with all the talk about loosing the ACD and AYC. Less things to break
Don't get me wrong..the car is SWEET!!!!
...but the fact is, it is not a perfect daily driver/hotrod. This car is perfect if you have a good dealership and you are a good mechanic, then I would suggest taking it to the track and using it as it is intended to be used...but if you want reliability get a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, their subsidaries (Lexus, etc), or get a Subaru if you want the performance with more reliability...even though the WRX tranny sucks!
Soleman,
No, I don't have any written info on the car's reliability issue..a lot is speculation and rumor (that's why I haven't given up on this car being awesome). I do check on www.scoobynet.co.uk where the BRits have been dealing with both the STi and EVOs for quite some time now and many people have stated each of the cars' weaknesses.
From what I am gathering the WRX has a weak tranny..the gears break at insane drop clutches (duh!) (found over at www.i-club.com). The STi...hmm, I dunno..its a different tranny all together and much beefier. The EVO, I have heard annoyances throughout the car's life such as things just "dying." The AYC among one of them. I also heard that its tranny parts are a little weak..or maybe it was just the clutch (not a biggie).
I am just trying to gather others' info on the cars before I make a purchase. Mitsu has been notorious about reliability, mostly due to DSM, but Mitsu cars (other than DSM) have had issues..
