Scary sight. We had an invitaion only autocross yesterday to try a new location in Deland. It is an old section of runway that isn't used by the airport. The course was laid out in a down and back style, with 3rd gear runs in the middle of both, lots of speed.
I was driving my Mustang, just for grins, and left the Evo at home. Another guy drove his silver Evo in A stock, and actually ended up with FTD... before his offroad venture.
I was working in the middle, half way down the course. He had a hot run going, having made it down to the turnaround very fast, and was pushing the edge of traction on the old paved runway. After the turn around there was a series of lane changes, and a fnal gate before a straightaway. He went through the lane changes, but got loose, and still tried to make the gate.
He ended up going through the gate on an angle, and straight off the edge of the course, through a 3' tall chainlink fence, over two poles. Only thing saving him from major damage was the poles weren't cemented in, rather the lower 2' or so were stuck in the ground, with just over 3' above.
He ended up with lots of surface damage to the front fascia, a hood that looked like a hail storm had hit it, but nothing else apparent. He got back in after some heartache assessment and made several more runs that day.
Still has to be the worst sound I have ever heard, seeing a car like mine knock a hole in a fence and hearing the chain link stretching and grinding along the hood, fascia, and undercarriage.
Hopefully he can get it fixed under insurance, as it looks like a minimum of a new fascia, hood, and front end paint job. Our hoods don't hold up worth a darn under any impact, and aluminum is a beotch to repair.

Hopefully insurance won't pay for it. It sucks that it happened, but why make every over insured EVO driver pay for his own mistake. Every AutoX I've been to, you have to sign an insurance release waiver for the event itself and saying that you know you are racing and won't charge your insurance company for any damages you made to your own car while racing.
