Evolution Imports [Super Mega Merge]
you can bet your *** that EI doesn't have any capabilities of swapping sides. If a LHD EVO VIII is coming next year (i personally would assume so, for europe), then they may have some chance at bringing in those.
Hell, EI doesn't even know how to file paperwork, what makes anyone think they could swap steering, dash, wiring, headlights (the do angle ya know), etc.....
EI is a good idea, but a company gone bad ("when animals attack")..

The reason why they have to convert VIII models from RHD to LHD is there are no LHD cars coming out until next year for Europe that are LHD.

Just wondering...
With Evo 8s in dealers now, why would anyone bother with the enormous risk of buying an illegal car through Evolution Imports? From what I'm reading, the cars that EI is importing will not be U.S. street legal for a LONG time. Why bother?

hello all, im a long time lurker but never posted. let me introduce myself. i have a rx-8 pre-ordered and also on the list for a STi(top 20 at irvine subaru, they say their getting 20 in their first allocation).
this is my current ride
i started browsing this forum ever since the evo 8 came out, as i was very interested and in the market for a new car.
however, i would much rather have the evo7, and this is where evolutionimports comes in. i sent this email to them
"Hi, I live in Southern California and I'm getting a new car soon. I
currently have a RX-8 and STi on order, and also considering the evo
VIII(waiting for the crazy markups to die down). But I am also very
interested in an imported evo VII. On you guy's front page, it shows
the evo VII as being $37,900. However at this link,
http://www.evolutionimports.net/models/index.php?
model=evo7§ion=pricing , it shows it as being $34,500 and it also
stats that price includes "Includes a 1 year parts and labor warranty,
shipping to the US, all conversion costs, shipping duties, and
taxes.". So how much does a brand new evo VII really cost? $37,900 or
$34,500. I am very interested, please provide me with all the info.
Thank you"
and got this reply
"-- It cost 34,500 we just have a couple of kinks on our new site that
they are still trying to work out.

Don't give them any money until you see the Lancer Evo added to NHTSA's "Vehicle Eligibility List" (the fifth button on page http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/).

yeah ditto...Senor Info has a HUGE thread on how the only legal import that they can bring in is the Skyline. If you want an EVO get an VIII for now, some customers have had their cars taken away b/c they are not US legal.
EI (evolution imports) basically offered a "deal" to some folks about 15 months ago... $30k for an Evo VII but you pay up front. Not sure how many people did it (guessing about 6-7), but the cars are still not legal. EI got them into the country and eventually into the owners hands but that was not legit. The cars are back at the Registered Importers waiting.
They were banking on avoiding the crashtest (the skylines via MotoRex needed crashed, resulting in a huge investment), based on the Evo VII being similar to the "Lancer". Obviously with the look of the Evo VIII with reinforced bumpers, the Evo VII will not pass crash testing without being modified, and I doubt the Gov't will pass it based on the plain Lancer.
bla bla bla... They do not have more than about a nickle invested (everyone paid up front remember), and could simply close shop (if they actually had a shop) in a moment, and dissappear.
And...there is just no way in hell they will be switching Right Hand drive JDM EVO VIII's into left hand drive like they have indicated.
It started out as a great idea, but had the wrong people and wrong assumptions. Paper work was never filed (it was recently instead of 15 months ago), etc...... So basically a cluster**** with somone elses $.
How was that for a glowing review.

Imported '04 Evo VIII?
What do you guys think, is it worth importing a new Evolution from Japan from companies such as Evolution Imports, or should I just stick to the USDM version... what exactly would be the differences and would it be worth it?
The only thing I would miss is the ACD and front LSD. The motor is the same so you should be able to get back the lost hp. I would ditch the AYC for the rear RS diff we have on ours anyways. Importing is around $40K vs $30K. If you have alot of money and are not the type to mess around with your car I'd go with the JDM VIII. I'm not sure if they are legal yet though.

I was thinking about doing it but don't feel safe doing the RHD to LHD conversion. Probably wait until fall and see when the LHD 8 comes out in Europe and also if the 04 US model has Super AYC/ ACD.
