World Challenge

A revision of my last post...Theres a very good article on the World Challenge in the most recent Car & Driver and according to them the the Audi budget [for 2 cars] is about $1 million and Caddy is spending $2 mil on there 3 car team. The best funded privateer Corvette runner is spending $ 400,000 plus the $200,000+ he spent building the car in the first place.

I am building my evo now to run in the T1 classand if it cost this much (and I haven't even finished the build yet), then I shudder to think what a WC attempt might cost. I do think it could be competitive with the right backing though.

It would beinterested to see someone attepmt this though. If I had money to burn I know I would.

GT class is very competitive and it would be very hard for the EVO to win but I would still love to see it join the series.

Good Luck and I hope you guys do it.
Um poop why do you say that, perhaps you should take a refresher course on Evolution heritage and realize that the Evolution is more than enough of a capable car to beat any of the cars it goes up against, although budgets does play a role, but if the budget is large enough (and it sometimes doesn't need to be 2/3 of what other teams are spending) the EVO is more than a willing competitor. You should know this, you drive an EVO, or did you just buy it cuz somebody told you it was fast.

The challenge has odd rules, and displacement matters, period. I highly doubt they would let the evo use anything but a stock bore/stroke 2.0. So your limited then on air intakes/boost levels which limits your hp. Then you have to figure out a way to fit very large tires to keep up with 5.7L V8's and 335s.

yeah, evo powah ownz! not.

for ANY car to be competitive in speed world challenge, you need a lot of money, good engineers, and a great driver. it's not quite as easy as racing minivans between stoplights.

In '01 & '02, Champion put the S4 on top w/2.7TT and I think the tires were 255 or 265mm .

Yeah the rules are very funky; however, the right $$$ and politics (balancing boost, hp, weight, etc....)could push the car into a very competitive state

The s4 still has quite a bit more displacement over the evo along with having twin turbos. I think the 2.0 is just too small to be competitive with the Porsches and the Vettes. Audi also had a high dollar team. I would love to see it. If I win the Powerball, that will be one of the first things I do.

I dont know about that. I think the car can make enough power to be competitive quite easily.

It looks like to get a car competitive you will have to get the power to weight ratio down to about 6.5lbs to 1 hp. That is not going to be an easy task while keeping the car race reliable.

BMW M3, 2800lbs, 430 hp = 6.52lbs/hp

Audi RS6, 3200lbs, 505 hp = 6.34lbs/hp (I don’t know actual Audi hp but I know of someone that has the RS6 street car and with just an ECU flash dynoed 505whp.) The race cars would easily be more since they are running 2.2 bar)

Viper Comp Coup, 3000lbs, 480hp = 6.25lbs/hp

EVO, ??2600lbs (If possible)??, 400hp = 6.5lbs/hp

Seeing as those are flywheel figures (audi maks about 550 bhp according to an article in Racer magazine a few months back), there are tonnes of guys on this bored running close to 400 hp with head studs, cams, an EMS and full exhuast/intake. I think the power level would not be a problem..and with Joe250 showing that 285's can be fit (with some convincing, see https://www.evolutionm.net/features/...vomfeatures/44), the car could be easily made competitive. If the SCCA would allow a weight of arround 2600 - 2800 lbs, the evo would give the big displacement boys a run for their money.

Well, the part of it is the rules, if they allowed the Corvettes to be more open (like the LeMans) cars they would dominate. I got an email from my local SCCA list-serv stating about how Cadillac black-mailed the SCCA to de-tune the Z06s, Vipers and Audi's.

This is one of the reasons I why I like LeMans series more than the WC.

And as for the X mod's make X power on a nearly stock car. The majority of retuned Evo's would blow if their not tuned specifically for heavy-duty road racing (my car had zero knock on a dyno). Boost is heat, even on C16 gas.

Wow... yeah, I need a refresher.. I know nothing about cars, I am a total idiot.

let me requote myself:
"I think it would be great pending it is a good effort.... "

get it? in a series like the World Challenge, it is NOT ONLY about how capable the 'car' (ha ha) really is... it is about the TEAM, BUDGET, SPONSORS, WHO YOU KNOW, BUDGET, BUDGET AND MORE BUDGET...

You could take the fastest EVO in the world, put it in the wrong hands... and what do you get?

"...and, yeeaahhhh... I am going to need that TPS report tomorrow, pronto, yeeaahh" - office space.
