Electric Issue - Minor..

hey all, now i've spent some decent time searching without any luck..
so without further adieu on my evo when i use the cig lighter for an accessory i.e. car charger for my cell phone it blows a fuse everytime.. leaving it a rather worthless item unless i smoke, or i want to change a fuse out for a millisecond charge..

anyone run into this issue? have a fix?

i spoke with the dealer ship and they said it's because that is simply a cig lighter accessory, and can't support car charging devices..
funny since i've seen many people use them for that specific purpose..

thanks in advance.

sounds like a wire/ground is loose. They blow out pretty quick that way.

Have you done anything with the car since this happened?

i have not, i purchased it this way.. i told the original owner it's probably a ground issue.. haven't had the time yet to look into the issue or even install my AMS parts in the garage!
shooting for tomorrow. is the ground for the cig lighter in a logical place -- i.e. under the center/ shift boot area?

Not sure where the ground wire is landed for the cig lighter....but have you tried another phone charger? you may have a short inside the charger thats causing the fuse to blow.

Yeah, a loose wire such as a ground increases resistance and thus amperage goes down, not up. Id suspect the charger, or a shorted wire

exposed power wire touching metal or something like that can do it too.

i'll have to put a request for a part number on that piece.. or call triplex mitsu in NJ they do 10% above cost on parts..
i'm not terribly worried about it, but it would be nice to have that outlet work incase i need it.
i'll look into it tomorrow after i get my parts on.
