Thanks for the info/link. Now we just need more details on what the differences/improvements will be.
Here is what seems likely: different front/rear bumpers, 6-speed.
I am wondering if the new U.S., European, Japanese Evo will all be REAL similar in horsepower and specs to each other.

The different front bumper beam is a given.

Tech says that they will probably drop in the front subframe from the Cedia (Lancer) to give it the same crash protection as the standard Cedia (Lancer).

That's about it for definites, tho...

I doubt the majority of people would agree with me on this, but I'd be really interested to see the US get the Evo VIII with GDI engines rather than the 4g63. I'm not talking trash about the 4g63...there's little room for that, but I'm really interested in how both tuners and aftermarket parts manufacturers would embrace/shun the new setup. Aside from the benefits of added mileage (which I've read suffers depending upon sulphur content of the fuel used) having all the torque really adds a great deal of potential to any 4cyl if you ask me. If there's one thing import cars are criticized for being without it's low end torque. Could GDI and other types like it be the end to all the American muscle car slander about small powerband import cars?

I'd like to think so. I see a lot of potential there. I'd like to think I'm not overlooking anything major and that somewhere, someone in a position of power at MMC agrees with me.

Yes, i would also welcome the extra toque the GDI would offer. That is really the thing I don't like about 4-bangers (turbo or not). I am used to driving my Mustangs (69 428SCJ and 92 5.0 with 600hp). Although I know the Evo will never have the torque or power of my Mustangs any improvements in low-end torque would be nice. I really like the overall package that the Evo offers...any improvements sound great. Hmm, GDI, 6-speed, Recaros, Brembos, Momo...all for 28,600...sounds good to me!

I don't give a damn what number they slap on it...as long as it's an Evo (and as long as it's got AWD and 250HP+).

If it comes 250 off the lot then I'm sure you could get those 20hp made up just from fairly simple mods. If all you want's 270 or so from an approximately 250hp car (stock) then you shouldn't have a difficult time at all.

I don't think US soil can support GDI engines the compression is too high and the fuel needed is unavailable if I am not mistaken.

mmmm

In my opinion, as long as they keep it similar to the VII and bring back the fog lights...i'll be happy!!....that was one of the things that got me hooked on the Evo back when the V came out...
Also it says it will be built off the lancer cedia...does that mean they plan on bringing that one to be sold in the US as well??

What dosen't make sense is....why would they have done all this other stuff?

Hyping the new EVO...At the Chicago Car Show there was an EVO VII, and not to mention those "spy shots" located in Michigan. Why would this all happen if they weren't even bringing over the car?

Quoting from the article...

And there's also the fact that the Evo VII is based on the Lancer Cedia platform, which will be released in the stateside next year. It would make sense for MMC to launch an Evo VIII at that time, to promote sales of the "base" Lancer Cedia.
Isn't this wrong?.. I thought the Lancer is already released??
Maybe I'm missing something...

I agree with Xenon... I wonder why would MMC bring EVO7 to car
shows... brings them to magazines for testing... spyshots... and
instead brings EVO8?

Unhappy GDI

Haven't been writing much for a while as I've been listening and reading...plus I'm not on line much. The GDI sounds like it would be a HUGE improvement as it would lower emmissions with increased torque and increased MPG. The whole concept of better swirling/mixing and vaporization of fuel inside the cylinder (cooling the gas slightly) doesn't intuitively seem that it would be negated by lower octane ratings or sulphur content. I have a BS in chemistry, so I have some fundamental understanding of combustion characteristics...but I could be completely wrong in thinking the GDI will do what it says. Nonetheless, reading Mitzubishi's material on the GDI...it sounds like a LOT of engineering went into the AF mixture dynamics in the cylinder and increased homogeneity of the AF mixture provides for more rapid detonation and thus better torque. The sulphur content is a concern for decreased performance (but that decrease would be noted in the fuel injected engines as well) though primarily it is a concern for emmissions (the sulphur oxides causing "acid rain" when they convert to H2SO4 (sulphuric acid) in the atmosphere)

I would like to hear from anyone who knows about the ability/difficulty of over-boring cylinders in a GDI engine. If the Evo 8 (or US 7.75 or whatever ) has the traditional engine, I plan to bore it to ~2.2 litres..would like to do the same if it's the GDI.

ONE SINGLE NOTE on the MK Olsen BS: This is a MMC Lancer Evo forum. Forget arguing over nonsense (except for all the nonsense we all enjoy arguing about ) I don't want to hear about what movies she is or will be in, what she is doing with her personal life, who wants to bend her over, etc, etc. If I wanted that crap, I would go wander in the teen/celebrity ****/fan club sites. If you actually believe that the user writing on our forum is a female, you are really not too bright. If you actually believe it is a teenaged female...you are a COMPLETE moron. If you think that it is the teenage actress, herself...you should concentrate on your breathing so you don't keep forgetting to do it, as you have obviously suffered severe hypoxic brain injury already and nearly all of your neurologic function will be required to perform this function.
Honestly, this guy likes MK Olsen, for which I do not blame him...enjoys cross-dressing, for which I do not blame him (though I do not share the proclivity)...and should stick to FAN forums to talk about her career...and **** forums to live out his fantasies about being...or being with...MK Olsen. It's fine if you want to be her on our forum...why should anyone care? But we want pictures of the Evo, not MK...we get her little picture as the icon..that's enough...or you can direct those interested to the fan sites where they can see them.
But honestly, ladies and gentlemen, to engage this guy in arguments about who he is...wanting to be...is really too stupid for words.
'NUFF SAID I will not discuss or respond to any of the MK BS again. Let's all do the same.
