AYC & other specs

OK. I, for one, am REALLY hoping they don't send over a no-AYC-Evo 'cause that's a mod I can't put on. See, the Brembos I don't care about 'cause I'll upgrade the brakes anyway. Seats, wheels, suspension...all swapped easily enough. But the AYC is a MAJOR bonus and we can't just order one over and put it in 'cause it's computer regulated in conjunction with the ACD (and we may not get that either!). Those interactions and adjustments make for much improved cornering...especially on asphalt. You can't do the same thing the AYC does...no matter how good a driver you are. It slows down the inside rear wheel and speeds up the outside rear wheel in a turn. You can visualize the effect by considering your shopping cart next time you're driving one. See how fast you can turn by twisting the back end...now try the same "cornering" pulling the front end.
Anyway. AT LEAST for those of us who are not full-time professional drivers...we will benefit GREATLY if we get the AYC/ACD. But as for E.I. giving us info: I agree...no way do I think they have any reason at all to tell us we ARE getting it...and every reason to tell us we're NOT. But I do agree that Adam is a great guy to deal with and I'd have no hesitation truning business his way if the Evo were not going to be coming to us. As for knowing whether or not it will have these features...or present them as pay-more options...I think Mordeth has pretty much given the low-down on all of it:

Nobody knows **** until Mitsubishi announces it. That has proven true again and again. I'll wait and hope. Anyone deciding to take the AYC/ACD off of their Evo...please give 'em to me for spares, thx.

I will throw a little more fuel to the EVO fire. I work for Mitsu and was at a meeting today kicking off the new product line that will be coming out over the next 18 months. From what we were told, in January will be the release of the EVO Ralli Art edition, which is a toned down version. It is going to be priced under $20k. Then in September of 03 they are releasing the EVO VIII, which will have the price just under $30k. This at least what I learned today, tomorrow could be a different story.

If they wait until Sept. they would lose sales. I think it would be the other way around...or both at the same time. The Ralliart edition should be the full blown Evo also, not the other way around.
Who told you this info.? I'm sure it's incorrect. We are getting the Evo VIII in Jan. with 260hp, 6-speed, brembos, recaros, 0-60 under 5 sec. and price around 30k. That's what I believe...

To add more to the RUMORs pile, I spoke with my local dealer today, this is what he had to say. Mitsu is not really telling them (dealers) much on the car, soo much of what you hear even from dealers or else where is pretty much speculation at this point. Mitsu won't release the true specs until about 30 days proir to release in Dec/Jan.03 I asked about two separate models being released, his reply was that there is going to ONE EVO Vlll with a base model putting out about 266hp, and being upgradeable to 306hp. Then reiterated until Mitsu releases the true facts he couldn't say anything for sure.

Also of interest was he said that their dealership was only receiving 24 Evos for the whole year, and were gonna sell them at $42,000 for the base model? Talk about a @$$ r@ping!!! Under $30K? Yeah right!

I think there will be more info around October.
3K,
24 Evos is a good bit. They WILL NOT sell that many Evos with a markup. I would wait a year longer or buy out of state before I paid a 10k markup!
It would be nice to see a base 266hp Evo for around 28k and have one available with "sport pkg" that would include a ecu upgrade, Recaros, Brembos, etc as an option (say $3k).

First in response to RSXtypeS EVOfan's comment on why they want to get rid of the active yaw controler its probably because it would cost alot to train all the service techs in the country to be MTU 2 certified to work on the AYC.I say train them and incorporate AYC in their full line up of vehicles in the future so the training will pay off.

Second,I totaly agree with broeli on the guesspecs ( hehe, get it) anyways I will probably wait untill july if it isnt under 30k at first release.

GDI? sorry folks but i'm a blonde when it comes to tech-stuff. dont tell me DI stands for diesel?

you guys in the think it's bad? Look at us in Canada....we don't even have Mitsubishi dealers! and about them AYM and other management systems, i guess we don't really need them if we get the US in north america, i mean, how often do we go rally racing? I'd think that if those things were introduced in the US-spec EVO, it'd only be a Gimmick to tackle the WRX. All we really need is the EVO itself, a turbo system, and finito. No brembos, no gimmicky management systems, seriously, we could put in all that by ourselves.

Canada is getting dealers starting in Sept 2002. Checkout the website: http://www.mitsubishicars.ca

As for EVO coming to Canada that is still unknown.

if you take out ayc/ayd(which i could careless about) and you also take out the brembos and the recaros and everything else that makes an evo and evo, why opt to wait for the evo than? It would be like any other high performance sports car.

I agree. People that say they will add the brembos etc. don't realize it is way cheaper for a manufacturer to spec them with the parts than it is to go out and buy them. Have you ever priced a complete Brembo setup and Recaro seats?! They ain't cheap
That is why Mitsubishi may bring a cheaper Cedia turbo along with the true Evo...for people that are satisified buying a bare Evo type car with less hp, and minus the extras ...basically base WRX competition.

an evo isn't an evo because it has brembo brakes or recaros. if had to sacrifice those to bring over an EVO, hell, let them. We can buy Brembo brakes and racing seats any day.
