No Evo VII for the U.S.
No Evo VII for the U.S.
Why the United States won't get the Lancer Evolution VII
That's right, no Evo VII for the States. Wait, before you write hate-mail to your local MMC representative on your tear-stained hanky, here is what is most likely to happen: The U.S. of A. will get the Evolution VIII instead...

Ok, this is very confusing. I think I see what will happen. He is right, we won't get the Evo VII. They are bringing the Evo to the US, we know that for sure. It may just be the Japan/Euro spec Evo VII with different front/rear bumper and called the Evo VIII. Another view: How would Mitsu produce the VIII and be able to make it on time in the US, by late December/early January? All I've seen is artist's impressions of the Evo VIII; this car is STILL in the designing stages, or am I missing something. It wont be the actual Evo VIII for sure. I really think that way too many people are making assumptions, creating rumors, that it's so hard to tell anything. I mean HP has been up in the air forever, plus YAW control/ect., things that will come stock. It's so very repetitive and boring; I want to know when Mitsu is going to get off their asses and tell us the deal and how things will go down.

Facts are, the "base" of the Evo VIII will be the same shell and most internals that is in the Evo VII. That's why they like using version numbers, because the base Lancer Cedia that is being used for the shell of the Evo will probably be used for 3-4 variants (if not more), but those variants can and will have significant differences from each other.
Let's look at the Evo 5, 6, and 6.5. Now, the base Evo bodyshell didn't change that much between those three variants, but various internals and bumper skins, easy-to-change aero parts and such did change. Somewhat like a software program that goes from version 6 to version 7, 90% is the same, 10% is bug fixes or new features.
The Evo VII was the beginning of the current body style. The Evo 7.5 was a midterm release of the automatic. It's now time for the Evo 8, whether it's a big change, or just minor modifications.

Does anyonyone read posts that are older than 1 day old?
Here is the message that already talked about this:

Notice it was revealed by a Mitsubishi inside source that the Evo will make its "world debut" at the end of Jan. '03 and that Engineers are still working on things. This is the best info hinting that it will be an Evo VIII not VII that everyone will get come end of Jan '03

Oh, I know, it's not really news - it's more of a clarification because so many people keep thinking it'll be an Evo VII that'll be shipped to the states. One of the biggest factors against that was the fact that MMC has already finished their run of Evo VII's.
Heck, even my tech editor said I didn't really need to post it - MMC's going to finally release some news in the near future. It just seemed that a lot of people are still confused on why of it all, and it's easier to write one thing once and link to it, then to post it multiple times.

Interesting, but seems problematic for
to pull the switch. IMO switching versions would cost them more money. When all they have to do is change similiarly easy parts such as IC and bumpers for the US version. Dropping the boost is easy modifying the ECU program is easy and shortening some pipes is also done easy enough considering the final selling price of this type of performance car.
