Unhappy Exhaust tickets

SO heres the story i had a full hks turbo back for about 3 months and i recieved 3 exhaust warnings with it on, so i removed it. and now about 6 months later i just put a new greddy cat back on. within 4 days of having the new exhaust on i have gotten pulled over twice and recieved 1 ticket. I live in Fairfax county virginia which i hearis the harshest county on exhausts in virginia. Does anyone have any suggestions????? I cant stand the sound of a stock exhaust. i love loud...I was considering painting the muffler flat black and putting my stock tip on...........

Man I heard Virginia State is hard on loud exhaust. that's pretty sucks and hassle to Evo owners. Step on the clutch when you see a cop LOL.

HAHA. i will roll for a mile in neutral if a cop is next to me. But it was some stupid lesbian cop and i new she didnt know what she was talking about becuase when i passed her i was rolling in neutral. In Northern virginia, they go by tip size not decibel levels im guessing.

I've heard the Tanabe Medallion Touring is pretty quiet. Give that a shot maybe?

I have been pulled over multiple times for "routine stops" and never received a ticket. I was very respectful when speaking with the multiple officers and they just let me go with a warning, ( 4 times now ). I have had cops that have had better days give me the "I see you have a modified exhaust speech" and I still ended up with a warning.

Maybe It's luck, but I have a 3" turbo back on my car and it's not the most quiet setup out there.

Either or, I am sorry to hear about your current situation and hope you get it resolved.

**Edit: Boise, Idaho is pretty harsh on exhaust laws as well.**

Buschur claims that their Evolution 3 " exhaust with the Magnaflow muffler and high flow cat is both free flowing and reasonably quiet.

get a cut out. my bro's got one on his STi. Sounds digustingly loud so effin sexy, and hes running it with the stock exhaust so whenever cops pull him over flick the switch and boom. its silent. works everytime cops r CLUELESS plus its cheaper than a full exhaust. just have one welded into your test pipe. i actually am ordering one in a few days for my evo 9.

That cutout thing seems like a pretty good deal. If I would've know about this, I would've got this first instead of my Greddy Ti-C

Man you too !!! i just got a ticket for my "STOCK" exhaust last week. Its funny when female cops act like they know cars when they don't...they should do more research before they hand some citations for reals!!!!

i have a full 3inch on mine, not sure what the DP and high flow cat is, but the catback is skunk2 megapower RR and its pretty quiet from outside the car if your cruising. Passed inpsection and MA has a "No louder then stock" exhaust law now.

I like how all the D-bags writing these laws were probably running around with cherry bomb exhaust V8, back before they got into politics, bet you some of them are running catless V8 now... want to talk about some freaking noise...I'm in the NOVA area and drive though fairfax... I'll let you know when I get one for my stock exhaust.... where specifically did it happen if you don't mind?

Do they just look at it an say its aftermarket?

Do they have you rev your engine and use a decible meter?

It all depends on what they are looking for.

I just find the thought of writing tickets for 4 banger exhausts helarious... used to drive a catless V8 magniflow exhaust, and you couldn't hear anything over that... never had any problems at all with cops.

The problem with this area is that it is so buracratic.. and german import friendly... I've seen a cop ignore a M3 driver driving like an idiot to pull over a WRX driver who was driving slower than the M3 and not weaving though traffic.

The problem is you LIKE loud and the cops don't. Either use a cutout of some kind or some other means of quiting the exhaust on command.

personally I would get a quite high performance exhaust as suggested above... a loud exhaust is cool but its all about the performance.

Anyone know exactly what the law is in the NOVA area? For example arlington has a sound ordinace which has a sub section for car exhaust....
