Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you want the sensor mounted above a horizonal plane?

Yes because of condensation.

For safety & performance sake, you definately want to remove the downpipe--then weld it.

Previous owner of my car totally screwed the weld job. I had to buy a complete downpipe and redo the job. Now I'm getting a CEL due because I have a resonator.

^Like stated above --3 o'clock is what you want. Improper weld might result in CEL.

To expand on this, you want it no less than 10˚ and no greater than 75˚ on the vertical plane (inclination).

Can you do it without taking off the dp? YES Would I do it that way? NO

Why cut corners when you do that all your doing is leaving room for something to go wrong

I just don't understand how people think they can drill a hole at the proper angle on the downpipe and properly weld the bung ALL AROUND while its still mounted on the car.

I see no point in cutting corners, especially on something that is used to tune your car.

I'd suggest marking the place you want to put the bung while the downpipe is on the car. This way you have it positioned correctly in respect to the downpipe bolted on the car.

Then after you mark the angle/spot. Remove the downpipe, drill the hole and weld the bung.

As for the angle dont go less than 3:00 or 9:00 position but at the same time dont go too high where it will hit the underbody etc... during bumps or hard cornering.
