I am the proud father of 3 girls (11, 9 and 5). I grappled with the same issue. I researched every booster and car seat - three seats will NOT fit. I had to wait (it was only a few months) for my oldest to not need a booster before I could fit all three kids in the back (one car seat, one booster seat, and my oldest in the middle). The width of the smallest booster seat is significantly wider than the rear end of an 11 or 13 year old - which is why you can fit three people but not 3 booster/car seats.

Sorry to hear that you are giving up the Evo...

Sorry to hear you are switching. I have 3 kids myself.. just had a newborn. so that puts me at a 5yo, 3yo, & a newborn. All boys.

Anyway, my wife and I had the same discussion, but the issue we had was just how many car seats would we end up having in the end. 3 car seats per car. If you don't have car seats per car then you won't be able to pick the kids up anyway, without meeting up to transfer car seats and then you might as well just trade vehicles. Fortunately for me my wife could drive my old IX and now I have an X MR so it's even easier for a daily driver. :-P

Have you thought about getting an old beater for $1000 or something that you could drive on the days you know you'll be picking up kids? I ended up getting an 86 4Runner for days when I want to take the kids camping, canoeing, etc.. and we don't want to take the minivan.

Hmm, sad, why not? I'd say getting her to drive the Evo would be the easiest solution.

If she refuses to drive stick, or refuses to drive it because it is a PITA to drive... then I understand, but if she just doesn't know how to drive stick, you should teach her. What happens if you are in an emergency situation and you can't drive and she has to?

How long till the 4 year old can ride in the front?

I'm lucky, my wife (who has an 06 dodge caravan with 3rd row seating) does most of the running around with the kids, when my kids go in the evo its more for fun, "vroooom, vroooom" my son says every time i accelerate.
My wife has a minivan but she has to use it when she works which is when I have to pick the kids up. My daughter is a good 2 years and at least 20 lbs from being able to sit up front. 3 car seats not possible in the evo.

WATCH THE REVIEW!

The backseat is PLENTY big,

plus cargo, lots of tech (sunroof, rockford Fosgate, paddle shifters, optional leather, etc.)

AND you will still be in the Mitsubishi family! Even get the AWD version and keep AWD in the family!

... Not a bad option, plus a 100 K warranty is legit.

EDIT: Have a dog too? http://mitsubishicars.com/MMNA/jsp/media.do?sID=0&aID=5
I am leaning more toward a 4 door truck I think.

Myself as well as 2 others have tried that. LOL let us just say not a good thing for my wife to drive stick. She freaks out when it snows and she had an AWD Honda Pilot. Besides there isn't a parking lot big enough or a free clutch when we are done. LOL

Damn I hate to see someone have to sell their evo but family does come first. Right now me and my wife are actually trying for our first child...I know this sounds f'd up of me but I'm hoping she doesn't get prego until next year when the car is completely paid off.... But all jokes aside I love my wife and I can't wait for this little **** to destroy my life with stress, joy, and sleepless nights. Right now we are looking good we might actually have twins since my wife hasn't been able to conceive so we are going thru IUI and we both have twins that run in our family so I might be having multiple births.

To the topic my wife has a Ford Escape which really isn't much wider then the evo. But we both have the option to work from home plus the sitter lives right next door to us....But thank you Jesus my wife can drive my car....actually that crazy woman drives it harder then I do sometimes

To the OP congrates on the new addition and as a soon to be Dad you will make the right decision for you and your family worse comes to worse you'll be back....we always come back

Alright, I accept that, especially if the Evo is the only stick car you have to teach her on. My girlfriend refuses to learn simply because she's concerned she'll break the car, and stresses too much.

I used to live in Yonkers the 2nd most hilliest city in the country. I taught my sister, female friend, and stepmom on my 00' Turbo Civic Si running a ACT 6 puck XTPP. I taught them all in no lie 15 minutes. Then I told them head back to the house we live on a hill told them to stop got out and I said ok now practice what you learned then all came back in 5 minutes...all pro's. I taught myself how to drive stick by watching my dad when I was a little kid. Then I took his car one time when he went on a business trip

I remember when my dad took me to a fairly big hill here (capital hill, actually, super steep) and made me stop and start... That was fun...

Gotta try teaching the current lady how to drive on this car.... Hill start assist makes things a whole lot easier
