I don't know why people make the Corvette out to be a "muscle car" and forget it's one of the best handling, best performing sports cars out there right now period, especialy for the money. I don't like GM's business tactics of late either, but give credit where it's due, the Corvette is fast, reliable, and awesome looking. I know this is an Evo forum, but the fanbois..... jeez....
No that is not what I'm saying. If you take the Evo down a tight back road or gravel or snow covered rally stage it will go faster with FAR less effort than a V8 muscle/racecar like the z06. Was is funny about this site and the evo/sti community as a whole racing this car is about 1/4 mile drags and to a lesser extent road courses. When in fact this car is rally derived and is best on public type back roads under non-ideal conditions. That is what makes the evo great not just a fanboi base. And IMHO the z06 is a muscle car and its butt ugly to boot.

tough choice, but z06 hands down. you just can't beat the LS7 imo.

sure your Evo can make a ton of power, after 4k rpm. it will never have the v8 response and INSTANT torque.

steering feel and "tossability" are the only saving grace for the Evo, IMO, which are not enough to have an advantage over the z06.

i wish i had your problem

I agree with you about the Evolution not being a drag car, but it's impractical to say that you need a car that can go out into the woods and jump over dirt hills, go fast on gravel, ect. The majority of people will not use their Evo in such a way, nor do they have the ability to without destroying the car and killing themselves. Most people on here think AWD is the answer, and somehow makes up for everything else. It dosn't. Regardless what people may think of GM as a company, or the Corvette's looks (or anything else that is subjective), it is very "fanboi-ish" to deny the fact that the Corvette is a world performer, and is leagues ahead of the Evo in performance and power.

Most Evo owners are 1/4 mile drag enthusiasts because it is the most easily accessible legal form of racing available to us. Track days on road courses can be expensive, and there are no rally courses or dirt backroads around that are legal to tear up at your leisure, in a safe envoronment. Sure you can run sanctioned rallycross events, but the wear and tear of rallycrossing versus taking your car to the drag strip are a world's difference. You can daily drive your car to the strip and run it numerous times. You need a full prepped rally car to take it offroad without it falling apart, and even then, there's a good chance you'll be breaking stuff.

I'm as big a rally fan as the next guy, which is the biggest reason I love my Evo. It's just not reasonable for the typical owner of these cars to use them as they were intended. The same reason 95% of the Hummers and other "off-road" vehicles you see on the road will never see dirt in their life.

If you factor in price, it is by no means ahead of the Evo performance-wise. To me the C6 has always been iffy, as it is very difficult to drive anywhere near the limit (sorry, traction control doesn't count in my book). Now, after seeing how the interior suffers after a few years, it's completely off my list - even though my wife keeps bugging me to get one. So, given the ease with which the Evo's performance is accessible and the seemingly better longevity, I'd pick the Evo every time.
