gas tank lid not opening
gas tank lid not opening
I finished pumping some gas today and notice a small plastic/metal piece fall to the floor. I'm wasn't sure if it fell off somewhere around my gas lid or the gas pump. So i closed the lid and tried to open it and it wont open now on its own. I looked at my friends civic and supra to see if they had the same plastic/metal piece on their lids and they dont. Theirs looks kinda like how mines looks now so I don't know if/where that piece goes. Anyone have pics of the inside of the gas lid?
Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Not sure what to do about it though. I'm guessing its a part that can be purchased. I just wedge my wallet under the lever to pop the gas door and use a credit card to open the door. The part that broke off attaches to the door back near where it hinges and just keeps tension pushing the door out. It is basically a spring.
Wow. This happened to me in August.
I asked my service writer about it last time I was in and he said, "Oh, that's easy." I just haven't bothered to order the part yet.
The part in question is a little clip-looking thing that goes on the hinge inside the door. (I got to see the broken part before it fell out.)
Like XSiv, I just wedge something in there to hold the handle up, and then I can open the door with my fingers.

lol same thing happened to me a few weeks back. The little clip broke and the lid would not open. Had to jimmy it open with a pocket knife till I got it fixed. The part is $4.95 from my local dealership, takes 30 sec to install.

Picked mine up today. Part # MR970563. Cost me $2.13 plus tax.
Installation was fairly straightforward. Part of it looks like a clip (like for clipping something to your belt), and it clips into hole on the hinge. I had to play with it for about 20 seconds to figure it out.
