My post was meant to help, not just be a smug Internet Sniper. You really have to start getting tougher on the DM. I understand it is expensive to get an attorney, but it might help to at least call one, ask he/she what you should do in the process to get things going, and then let the DM/Dealership know that you've spoken to (Attorney's name) at (Attorney's Firm).
I'd also recommend documenting everything you can in a letter and sending it to Mitsu HQ. Make SURE you carbon copy it to the lawyer, the dealership, and the DM (you don't really have to send it to the lawyer....but once they see that it's CC'd they will sit up and take notice).
Besides all that, I am curious. You're telling me that the clutch on your car began slipping and you never once launched it. Are you SURE about that?

I remember saying before the EVO was released that we need to be prepared for all the complaints of grinding syncros, slipping clutches, ticking lifters and warped brake rotors. Well it looks like that time is here!
Ohhh...the EVO is not a DSM...its made in Japan not Normal, IL. Shut the $%&# up! The Galant VR4 was made in Japan and it shared all of the same problems as a DSM. Gee...the EVO is suffering the same problems as a DSM's....Its not where it is manufactured but how the car is engineered. Both were engineered in Japan.
Mitsubishi’s has been building AWD cars for many years now. They know how to make a strong clutch. They also know what America or any other country will do to an AWD tranny with a strong clutch. Destroy it!!!
If you run your car hard it will break. Indy cars break, rally cars break, fighter jets break. Anything high performance has a short life span. Do you think the 6 speed sequential that you hear whining in a WRC car is going to last 150,000 miles on the street? I doubt it would last 5000 miles!!! Will the brake pads on the NASCAR last 40,000 miles? Lucky if they last 200. Run you car hard and be prepared to pay the price. STOP SNIVELING AND WHINING!!! You need to find a different car, the EVO is not for you! Trust me things will only get worse with the EVO over time.
Anyone on this forum that Autocrosses, drag races, road races or rallies their EVO is cool in my book. Any one who does this and also wines about Mitsubishi as a company or their reliability needs a swift hard kick in the A$$!!!!!.
Go to www.dsmtalk.com
You will probably see 80% of the problems that will crop up on the EVO. Thank god DSM's are mostly out of warranty so we don’t see this type of thread. DSM motto: Figure out what broke, Fix it and move on until something else breaks!
favre95 your post really hit the nail on the head!!!

I'm still probably going to buy an Evo, but Mitsubishi sounds like it is doing everything in it's power to ruin the magic of this car. This isn't a Diamond Star Turd so please quit comparing it to it.

You don't see those guys burning up clutches after 5000 miles. You don't see Chevy DM's going to the track with binoculars and notepads. You don't see Mr. Goodwrench employees scouring the Internet forums for abusive Corvette owners (God knows, there are thousands). And to top it off...this is a Chevrolet Corvette! Not exactly the pinnacle of build quality or reputation! what does this say about Mitsubishi?

The Evo will out accelerate the Z06 in certian applications. The Evo has already proven that it can out brake the Z06. The Evo can by far out manuever the Z06.
Most of the reason you don't see smoked clutches in cars like that is the rear tires can break loose. You can't do that in the Evo. All tires go, and stick, therefore all the wear and tear goes to the clutch.
Go read the corvette forums once. I bet you'll see just as many people complaining about various things, including the clutch.
This car IS a street legal race car. Plain and simple. I'd say it's even more raw as a race car than a Z06.

What matters is that the Evo is a vehicle sold to consumers, it is a product. When that product exhibits problems that many people are complaining about (crap paint, clutches that aren't strong enough, etc) then we got a problem. Why do you think Mitsubishi is in such huge financial trouble? Because they address problems and fix them or because they sweep them under the carpet?
Audi drivers have Quattro, they smoke and dump clutches with engines immensely more torquey than the Evo's all the time, but you don't see them wearing out after 5000 miles. The difference? Evo puts better clutch disks in their cars. Period. If Mitsu was smart they'd start putting better clutches in their car and we would not have ANY of these "Bad clutch" rumors (that are actually QUITE widespread now...I've read about this on several different websites). Do you have any idea how much these rumors hurt Mitsu's brand name? A LOT.
I am absolutely, completely in love with the Evo but if I keep reading these horror stories and Mitsu doesn't get off it's ***, I'll march straight to the Subaru dealer and get me a STi.
The Talon Digest by Todd Day was started back in 1990. It was an E-mail list that became very popular and contributed tons to the DSM community. Many people would ask about problems so that it seemed the cars were plauged with tons of faults. (they were anyway but most of it is due to abuse). It became apparent that people only comment when they are having problems, not having success. It got to the point that people would end there post with. 'Nothing broke today' or 'My car is running good' kind of as a joke. Honestly, I do beleive Mitsubishi in not engineered as well as say a Honda or a Toyota. It is reflected in the cars reliability and durability. I am not saying that everything sucks on a Mitsubishi, I am just saying that they dont seem to over engineer every part of the car like Honda does. BUT you are able to afford this FMIC, big turbo, 4 pot Brembo monster with 17X8 wheels for $29,000. If Honda or Toyota built it I would expect the price to be up around $40,000. Also, Honda would probably try to do it with out the band aid of a Turbo - I am ducking now! Seroiusly I do read the Corvette Forums. My next car will probably be a Z06. I have decided that there is no replacement for NA displacement...and there are no displacement rules on the street....Its hard to beat a used Z06 for the money.
Get a STI and make us all happy, I have 6400 miles or so and had 0 problems. I take the car to 7500 rpm as much as I can in the first 2 gears everyday.

The z06 and the viper are the only 2 cars that kill me on the track. I think with 350-400 whp I can pass them but right now no way unless it's a suck *** driver. Also the Z06 will keep up with the old vipers without a problem don't know about the new ones. For the Money the Z06 rocks, I looked at them too but wanted the turbo again. If I get a NA car again it will be the new NSX if it ever comes out. The inside of that car rocks and is just a little low on power and no real solution for it.

service shops in the area and do you know how many Evo's we've had with clutch problems OR any major blow up? Try 1 or 2 out of the 30-50 I see around here. You think
is in trouble due to the way they handle their warranty? Try again. They're in trouble due to their previous poor marketing strategy. They aimed all their marketing on the young generation, which is now growing older and they've lost that older market segment. I'm not going into this now, but it has nothing to do with warranty work.

people are complaining about their Evo's? Go read the Subby forums for a while. From detonation, to the hood scoop and wing flapping in the wind, the super mushy steering, the BOOM BOOMS in the rear diff, there are FAR FAR more problems with the Subby.I'm just sick and tired of reading "Oh, I read this from this one person, so it must all be bad" or even reading it from 50 people. 1 person complaining is more powerful than 100 people saying positive things. There are far more people with 0 problems on here than there are with problems. Stop reading so deep into every complainer says and make your own decisions for yourself first hand, in real life, instead of reading it on a forum. Go to your local :mistu: shop and talk to the service advisor. If you're straight with them and nice to them, they'll be perfectly honest and straight with you.
That is why I passed on the Z06, if I wanted a 2 seater I liked the NSX better. Again the z06 is MUCH faster then a stock NSX at the track, Hell it's faster the most supercharged NSXs lol

Like I said in the past my friend is a EVO tech and work on a lot of evo's and said all he has done is pads on the Road and track car as well as oil changes. That was a few months ago but I don't see why much would change. I think you have to be a real dumb *** to mess this car up, the motor just rocks and is as good as my NSX motor. No problems from me so far.

I think 99 people singing praises is much more powerful than 1 person complaining. I have been hearing more of about 35-40 people not so happy, and only about 15-25 people singing praises around these virtual byways.

Also, it'll take a LOT more for someone who's happy to post, than someone who's not. Everyone who is happy isn't posting on the forum, they're out driving their Evo.
I think that a big part of the issue that people are complaining about is the service. My dealer here is great to work with, and has been nothing but helpful. Granted my car is new, and does not have a ton of miles on it, but they were very up front with me in covering and making sure that I understood the increased cost of ownership and maintenance on a car that make 139+ HP/Liter. You are not getting those kind of numbers from subaru or GM's mighty Z06. So saying that mitsu does not know how to engineer ****, just doesn't make sense to me.
I find it funny that people have bought a car that is a detuned version of a world rally car, and are *****ing about a loud tranny here, and other nonsenical items for a car like this.
This is a de-tuned race car, that the US market begged Mitsu to release in the states. Now it is here, and people are *****ing about the quality of the product, when they should have known what they were getting into.
Have you done any mods to increase power? Have you done any launches at more than a regular sedate driving pace. Have you hammered the brakes hard to get into tht corner on your drive home just a little faster than last night? If you push a car as high strung as the EVO, then expect there to be $$ reprocussions to the fun factor you are enjoying.
