air bag systems have two sensors that work togather so the bag will not inflate for lets say hitting your garbage can. you will need to change the front impact sensors or whichever end of the car was hit. That is what is setting off your sas light. Then reset airbag computer. And yes it will cost $$$$ anything air bag realated is $$$$. You do not need to replace your air bags unless they deploy.

If your SRS light is on, you need to reset the SRS ECU. Provided there are no faults, you should be able to swap the air bag units without having to reset the ECU. I can't say whether deployment requires a reset or not. I don't want you to get yourself killed. I hooked and unhooked the air bag unit in the Talon's steering wheel several times to work on various things with no faults, but then again I've never had them deploy.

air bags were easy to replace i got a hole new dash so the pass side airbag was already done for me and as for the steering wheel there are a few good write ups on here took me a few hours to do it all with a friend and the cars never been to the dealer yet .
You'd go to the dealer after you replaced all the bags and pretensioners, not before. Personally, I'd get a used one or have it reset by someone else, Subaru wouldn't reset the controller on an STi I replaced the bags with.
