I paid just under 26k for my bone stock IX SE with 10.8k miles a year and a half ago, it sits with some tasteful mods and just over 19k miles now and I am confident I could sell it for at least 25k now, that's hardly a deprecation in my book.
he is right the high milage evos are the cheap ones or salvaged ones. who is going to pay 17k+ for a evo with over 100k miles. . again a car is not a investment it gets you from point A to B when you finally get tired of that you sell it for whatever and use that money to get something else.

Salvage Evos are ridiculous, IMO. I buy and sell wrecked cars every week and I couldn't touch a wrecked Evo on the salvage auctions. I tried to pick one up for quite some time and they were bringing around $10k. Keep in mind these were nicer, fixable Evos but thats still a lot if you ask me.

Also, I agree that Evos are holding their value. I looked around for a nice low mileage IX and they were in the $22-26k range.

Car values always depreciate. Doesn't matter what car or type.

Other factors can make it go back up, but thats more or less a "rarity" issue.

I got 22k miles on my IX MR and its still worth 23k. Not great but not bad either. I don't care if it's not worth anything because I'm never getting rid of it. Supply and demand wins everytime.

Supras rare? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't supras come to the states way before evos? I never saw any evos where I live until I bought mine!? Go figure, but I saw supras pretty often. Rare is a Super Bird in any condition or a skyline in the states. Comparing cars as to rarity is way to subjective to associate depreciation values of evos...come on. More like Economy, Fuel Prices, Insurance, Popularity at a certain time, Location East coast West coast, etc....Anyways when the next transformer movie comes out, our cars will depreciate more, no need to kill yourself over it, it just happens no worries....

These cars (With lowish mileage) hold their value Extremely well for a car that has just had a new model and body style come out, esp since in some places they are a dime a dozen.

In case you haven't noticed, but Supra prices have come down about 20% from a year or two ago.

Ask any moron who shelled out $45k for a 50k mile 97-98 how they feel now...

At the rate some of kids are destroying them.. they will become more valuable soon. Itll be like the dsm days where there wont be any clean examples left.

Um, yeah, they are quite rare. VERY rare for a Toyota. There were only ~3500 6 speed turbos imported over the 5 year period they were sold. 326 of those were hardtops, which are VERY rare and desirable. There were 18 hardtop turbos imported in 1995. That qualifies as rare in my book. Subtract all of them that have been totaled, and you have a fairly rare car. Sure not skyline rare, which doesn't even count in my book because it was never sold here, but certainly way more rare than even a viper from that same time period. Combine that with the fact that they have absolutely absurd potential, almost unbreakable reliability and their hasn't been nor are there any plans for a successor; demand skyrockets. Also remember that they were $50k+ in 1995. There have been more EVOs built every year than the entire 5 years the supra was offered here (referring to turbo 6 speeds). And tell me how rarity is determined by when a car is released? I'm not sure I follow your logic there.

As great as the Evo is as a drivers car, it really doesn't have anything else going for it. It's an econobox with a bad *** drivetrain. Plain and simple. It doesn't have timeless looks, or anything else that will make it hold it's place in history. That is why they depreciate just like any other car out there in these trying times.

no worries on the resale value of the evo. if you have an immaculate, low miles and unmodified one, you can always ask for top dollar. there will always be a buyer of the CT9A body style evo(like me).

For Supras there is a NA production sheet @ mkiv.com

I wasn't able to find exact stuff on the evo, but I found this for IX production numbers.

0358 - Evolution IX RS
3667 - Evolution IX (includes SE editions)
4176 - Evolution IX MR
8201 - Total exported Evolution IX to North America (USA)

i just looked up mine on KBB and the private party value for my IX RS was was around 20k and retail was at $23k and NADA says $19.5K. my car has about 27k miles on it. its a joke and i guess it depends on the dealer. some dealers take these numbers into consideration but they also look at the local auction and that is what hurts the prices on vehicles.

i had a 2005 toyota sienna which we recently traded in and we were up side down $8K on a car that was 3-4 years old with 55K miles on it. mostly because auctions and economy. this sucks. but i plan on keeping this thing for ever lol. drive it till the wheels fall off and rebuild it lol.
