Desicions.... Decisions

So I just got my IX and have an idea of what I want out of it. Ideally, I would like a 400+ whp DD. Theres a catch though. I would like to run a 9k redline, and have the powerband hold to redline.

Ok, so Im wondering if this is possible. Secondly, would it be good as a DD. Third, Im not even sure where to start on parts lol.

Any input is much appreciated. I have looked at the stroker engines, and would prefer not to if possible. What do you guys think? Am I asking too much?

I had some great luck with my 2.0 long rod motor. Thing pulls like a freight train to almost 9k rpm's but my 3582 doesn't want to keep up as much as I'd like. I am looking into a different turbo now. You will need to upgrade your valve train, get a good set of cams ( I recommend kelford 280's), the list goes on. Let me post a link to my thread with list of mods and dyno plot.

I been running it for a few months. I drove it from New jersey to Florida recently and it was a blast. I wanted the 2.0 long rod motor for 2 reasons. I wanted better top end power and I wanted a different set up than what the majority has been going with. I like to be different. In my opinion, if you want great top end power, this is the motor to go with. My plans are to get a bigger turbo, haven't decided which one yet, and take it to a little over 10k rpm's. Then I will take my full weight SSL Evo to the track and see how she does on pump gas. Maybe I will even try some race gas in the future.

Upgrade your valvetrain, that will give you a little more room to rev out. Throw some cams in there too while you're at it... Hell, I rev my stock head to 8k. Probably not the best idea, but it's fun. As far as the turbo, you won't need MUCH more than the 9 turbo. An FP green will go over 400whp. A red, over 500whp. Check out the CBRD BBK options too, they make over 400whp and the owners love them!

Or, if you want a turbo kit instead of just a bolt on stock frame turbo, pretty much any t3 turbo should make over 400whp. I might suggest a GT35R, 3076 or the new Precision 5857, that will also give you a little more room to up the power if you ever decide.

So you had all the work done by slowboy? How much did it set you back to do a setup like this?

Also, are there any engine swaps you could do that would yeild similar results?

This build got quite costly. Slowboy did the motor and the head work. Turbotrix did the install and the tuning. I went to the extremes on this build. Did the Magnus manifold exedy triple disk etc. If you don't have the money to spend, it's best to start with a turbo kit then eventually do the motor build etc. Just start piecing together everything and keep in mind the end result your looking for when purchasing parts. To do a full build like this in one shot will require deep pockets.

how much estimate wise? Sounds like it would be around 10k to get everything done, and post selling stock parts.

hey buddy,

congrats on getting a great car! What you want is very attainable. It can be done in many different ways. If you want a great spooling setup that will hold to red line, you can do it with the stock motor but something like the long rod 2.0 or a stroker would do pretty great, too!

Turbo selection will go a long way. If you go something bolt on it takes a little more boost than if you went with the T3 style setup. Either way, 450whp on a daily setup is not hard for either one.

Start with the basic. Turbo back, intercooler, cams, injectors, fuel pump and some tuning. On the IX, that can get you into the very high 300whp without going to any extremes. From there you can go with a head package to really breathe more or you can just got about picking out the new turbos setup. I'd be more than happy to help with any questions that you may have. I love working on a project from the beginning!

John, I'm very glad to hear it's doing so well for you man! I really appreciate the plug!

I would have to dig out the receipts, but it was over 11 grand easily. But keep in mind, I already had my turbo kit, intercooler and many other parts before I had the motor and head done. I had an exedy twin disk which I converted to a triple which saved me a little bit of money, but not much.

Just get a turbo kit and run low boost and you will be at your goal and when you want more just turn up wick!

just my opinion but I don't get why people want to rev to 9k on a daily driver. RPM kills components and requires far more care than a car making similar power at 7k

personally for a street motor that's AWD I would do a 2.3 or 2.4 and have 400/400 and be all done at 7k

I have an 8600rpm project car so no need for another high strung 4cyl
