Any regrets on your first mods?

I'm going to be purchasing an Evo in May/June 2010, for my first mods I want to send my tranny and transfer case to Shep from the start. I'd also like to hear which route you guys went and if you would start differently. Usually I'm a wheels and suspension first guy, but this time around I'm starting with the drivetrain.

Hm.. well my first evo my biggest regret was driving it to work because a F350 decided to add me as a hood ornament. Only 7 days after I bought it too...

As far as my first mod on my new evo I wish I spent the money used on the 5zigen rims on suspension mods. I really wouldn't mind doing sway bars, but my car came with cams, licp, intake, tune etc... If I had a new car I'd probably do the intake, boost controller and so on that route...

My biggest regret on my first evo (bby evo 8) was buying my AMS exhaust for $900+. I absolutely loved the exhaust but in reality you can buy a used 3" exhaust for so much cheaper (1/3 the price for a decent one). Look for a good brand with minimal dings/dents and you will be happy with the money you saved.

that sounds like the dumbest 1st mod. id maybe buy a better car if the 1st thing your gunna do is pull the transmission and transfer case out of it. maybe start with some maintenance.

I drove a 03 today with +100,000 miles on the clock. It's drivetrain felt great. The gearbox was particularly impressive with no excuses and/or allowances for age and mileage. Buy the right car that was properly maintained and owned by someone who cared about it, and you won't have to worry about the drivetrain.

FWIW, my first mods were T-Bolt clamps.

X2, I love my exhaust, but if I did it over again I would find something cheaper or used.

i wouldnt do the tranny and transfercase upgrades til you have power that requires it...
what do you plan on doing with the car?

most people usually do the basic bolt ons first...full TBE, intake, licp, mbc and a tune...then go from there...

I Agree 100%

Do your research well before you buy, that way you dont spend more money in the end.

No regrets on my mods so far. First mods i did were tbolt clamps, stainless steel clutch line, clutch pill delete, and shifter bushings. Very little money spent on those mods. Then came the intake, turbo back, mbc, licp and tune.

My only regret is skimping on my coilovers and getting a middle of the road set (skunk pro-c). Now I'm buying some kw clubsports or olhin dfv's.

Well what I can say is determine your upgrade route carefully so you don't have to redo your setup 20 times. Even for small things. Could you get away with a drop in filter or do you need a FP intake for the kind of boost you are running. It saves a lot of time and money.
