dam for a rod to go thru ur engine suddenly with no rod knock or any other signs of worn or faulty bearings. id say either the wrist pin came out or ur dads freind just beat the sit out of the car. hope that helps. im in nj and ill be selling my shortblock if ur interested as im switching to a 2.4l. let me know

I don't get why you didn't change the sensor yourself. If you can change the oil you can change that sensor. It's pretty easy to do.

or posibly the piston hit a valve or ur spark plug then caused it to explode

That's why I DIY all the work in my car except for the ones I don't have tools for like welding, pulling out engine, etc.

Hope you get to the bottom of what caused the problem and find another engine.

EVEN if the cam sensor was faulty, the car wouldn't just explode UNLESS he was hammering it.
