Is this rust normal?

I haven't driven my car out in the winter for a while but I went to go snap a few pics at various places underneath the car.. Let me know if you guys think this is normal or have it too. The amount of driving I did in the snow hasn't been that much in total...

lol i'm pretty sure this is gonna send a flurry of owners out to go check underneath their cars.

I know I will! There doesn't seem to be any damage, but it does look like a decent amount of surface rust.

ermmm being a california car over here i do notice the LCA's have rust. Also under the rear bumper, the area under the bumper support beam is rusted as well. You can always use that spray on black stuff to stop it from spreading.

Unless you remove the rust, it will keep on rusting.
Spraying over the rust will only cover it up.

Thats a normal amount of rust and nothing to worry about. You should see the undersides of the cars driven in climates where road salt is used heavily.

its called OXIDATION buddy, unless your car is in a climate control garage, it eventually going to develop surface rust so no biggie

It is nasty out there this year. I changed oil in my Evo the other day which required removing the rear panel of my Beatrush undercover. From the salty water coming off of my car, the bit in my magnetic screwdriver rusted in place. From the looks of things you are operating in similar conditions.

It is hard to find but they make oils that prevent or stop rust. I started out with a 5 gallon container of this stuff years ago and now have about a quart left. I checked recently but couldn't locate the manufacturer I used back then but there was a thread that told of some others last winter. You can paint or spray this stuff on, do part or the entire underside of the car. The stuff will protect for a year or two.

It will probably take decades for the thicker metal parts to be damaged by rust. It is the thin body parts you need to watch.

dont worry about it. even bridges rust every minute, and and we drive over then every day. if you want to stop then you will have to clean it all up and then spray it.
