You need to be discrete about where you choose to drive the car to its fulll potential....

the current car

Until last year, I owned an A2 GTI that I drove off the lot on May 17, 1991. I'm 46, grey hair, clean record. In the 4 years I've had the Evo, I was pulled over just once - no front plate. Other than that, no one ever bothers me. BTW, the wing is intact. This isn't to say that cops don't look, but hey lose interest as soon as they seem to see a middle-aged profile behind the wheel.

Hey man, it seems like you have your numbers wrong. I have an EVO 9 MR and get about 320 on my tank. I've had it about 3 years now pushing about 400hp at the wheel and I've never been stopped, its all about how you drive. You could be on an old Buick and get stopped if you don't know how to drive properly. - Just my opinion.

I'm not sure why the car gets such bad gas mileage maybe its because I drive a lot of highway and since I have the SE cruising at like 65-70 is like 3200-3400 rpms for like a good hour. But best I got was 250 out of the tank. Possibly the previous owner had a bad tune on it im not sure. But after doing some calculations ima have to let this baby go until im more financially stable. I gotta take care of school first and some other issues Ive been having but without a doubt I will get another one in the near future. Best car I've ever drive and very fun to drive it hurts but I gotta be realistic and keeping the Evo right now is not an option for me.

dude, don't listen to anyone but yourself. ( even though asking public opinion on an internet forum is silly if youre gonna do that......). starting life in debt is what gets people in trouble by the time they are 30. get rid of the f'n car, get a beater, and work towards that goal. good luck.

Agreed! The evo is and always has been one of my dream cars! I wanted an evo from the day i first got my liscense but knew that it was an untouchable dream at the moment. I was 26 when i bought my evo and have loved every day of it since! Let her go and you WILL get another in the future believe me! Just work towards it! Good luck!

In 'Jersey, you are not allowed ANY tinted windows on the driver & passenger front doors. NO way, NO how! I think the tint and your young age make you an easy target.

Do a test. Take the tint off of the two front windows only and see what happens. If you aren't hasseled, then you're done and you'll know why you were bothered ALL the time. If that still doesn't work, try the wing. I'll bet it's the tint! Good luck! Just my two cents.
Damn, you guys have it rough. I have limo tint all the way around my evo and the only time I've been pulled over was in Hawthorne, NV driving back from Reno when I bought it for having no license plate haha

Im 25 so my insurance isnt but around $100/month now for full coverage. I agree on guzzling gas but Im hoping to go e-85 soon for more smiles when dumping money into fuel. I also ditched the wing as it attracted police for sure. Ive had one ticket in over 3 years for turning without using a signal which I fought and won because I was actually cut off and forced to change lanes abruptly.

Long story short...

OP I think this car gets safer with more tasteful and moderate mods, age, and a younger appearance(you personally and the evo). Dont sell it get a honda like I just did. Old paint faded high mileage(190k)2-door 96 accord 5 speed practicly handed over for what I paid ($400)and already paid for itself in gas savings and mileage savings. Downfall-No A/C and no radio which will both be fixed for under $500 combined with a macco paint job and Ive got a great Evo-saver for about $1500.00 spent progressively. Ive thought about selling this car on many occasions but I just cant let her go. Its like a buick grand national of our time. Just wait when its more rare and a garage kept weekend cruiser thats paid off. Itll be a great feeling to own one forver and/or grow old with it. Nothing compares on this platform IMO and Im sure others are forwarning you as well.

Paying for school sucks (I owe about 30K in loans now steadily being paid off) but that money is allowing me to earn 70k a year

I'm unfortunately in the same boat :/, getting ready to part with my evo for something a little better on the gas and a little less conspicuous.
