Just be mindful of the clutch starting in 2nd. i would say you could do it a few times just because im sure your problem is annoying but try not to do it back to back to allow the clutch to cool some.
As far as your problem goes I would check all the motor mounts. I know its sifter cable car but the engine can move around quite a bi tif one mount is not working.

What happens if you keep pressure on the shifter in 1st gear location. Does it stay in gear then without problems or is there enough force to pop it out anyway or you just get feedback and feeling that if you don't move your hand, you will destroy something. Does it happen under low, high or no load (just driving at constant rpm)?
As a intermediate solution, you could try short shifting first instead of starting in 2nd (it will just be easier on the clutch). Start off in first and after literally 1-2 secs, shift to 2nd and keep going from low rpm's in 2nd. Basically, try to beat the pop out by shifting before it would pop out. That way you will not be slipping the clutch in 2nd that much to get going.

^There's enough force to pop it back even with my hand there. Which sucks because I just had shoulder surgery and hurt my shoulder experimenting with that idea. It happens under all different loads but only happens if I'm starting from a complete stop.
I tried that short shifting idea, but it pops out of gear too soon to do.
So it sounds like it's a shifter linkage problem?
How much labor is involved in checking this/fixing?
The shop that did the rebuild is a 24 hour round trip and I won't be going back there til the summer. I'll have to go to a more local shop or dealership to have this taken care of.
Thanks everyone.

[QUOTE=Steed77;7968600]Sounds like a synrco/blocker issue for sure.
Rt on the money. have seen this on several cars. Changed out sycros...problem solved.
warn synco's have 2 symptoms, one is grinding the other is popping out of gear under load. You do the the option of holding it in gear..lol

Well, after waiting for a call back from the mechanic for 3 weeks I finally called back and got a hold of him. He was very defensive and basically tried to blame my short shifter for the problems(I've had a kartboy shifter kit for 4 years without any issues). He's going to have the owner of the company call me. The owner is a cool dude and has always taken care of me so I'm confident he'll handle this properly.
Ughhh I wish I had a DD lol.

I have had this exact same problem/symptom you describe (not in an evo). When the mechanic opened up my transmission, first gear was basically gone. I hope that is not the case here, just passing on what happened to me.
