Boost pill caused turbo to overboost and blow up engine

My local stealership told me that the boost pill installed by Shiv caused my turbo to overboost and blow a rod. Is this a common issue?

What are your other modifications? What type of boost controller?

Over boosting can cause blown rods, as well as can other factors.

Yeah if you did over boost then that would definitely be something that could blow a motor. Now for a boost pill to do that is a different story. I think something else went on but like stated above what mods are we lookin at here?

How much boost did you hit? Also do you have a wideband?

Have you ever been tuned? Also as stated above do you have a wideband? If you've been driving around untuned with a boost pill in your most likely getting decent boost spikes during pulls cuaseing you to run lean up top and blow the motor.

It was dyno and street tuned by Shiv at Vishnu with the xede. I don't have a wideband. My local evo guy removed the xede, but didn't remove the boost pill. Could the boost pill by itself cause the car to overboost?

Yes, on top of that you are running more boost without being tuned for it. As it is most evos with a stock tune knock a few counts at stock boost level, Im sure those boost spikes made it even worse. How much boost did you see it spike to and what did it hold?

The dealer actually blew up the car so I don't know the boost levels.

God the amount of failure that goes on with some Evo owners!
It amazes me we dont see more totaled evos than we do.

why on gods earth would someone remove the only right part about the car? boost pills are GHETTO. use a boost controller! your "local evo guys" should sell their evos as well, and go back to the civics they traded in to get the evo.

1. Why would you uninstall the xede when you were tuned with that system unless you were going to reflash it immediatle after for the pill.

2. Why and how did the dealer blow up your engine?
