Upgrading 64mm to 84mm FP red, questions

I've recently picked up a evo with a 64mm FP red, I talked with FP and I can upgrade to the 84mm surge port housing for relativley cheap. I know it's gonna require a new tune, but will it be safe to drive around for awhile until I get a tune? Or should I wait till I have the funds for both at the same time?

Thanks in advance

well idk if its the same but for my supra im about to switch from a tt to a single and the guys over at sound performance told me i should just wait to be able to afford both things at once even tho it would be fine drive with the new turbo on.

Thanks guys, I'll probably order that housing and wait a couple weeks to get it tuned and just stay out of boost

Will do, Hopefully a local tuner will help out. If not I might be heading to AMS. I'll keep everyone posted. I currently make 390whp at 26psi on 64mm housing.

84mm housing flows more air which in turns means more fuel correct? The tune is on the conservative side as is now.

No I believe the 84 flows less than the 64. The 84 is to prevent surging.

Correct. The 84mm housing was not made you flow more than the 64mm. However there are mods you can do to make it flow better, however its main purpuse is to minimize surge.

I have the 84mm housing and love it. Great mod to improve driveability. Not sure if it is going to hurt me on power but once I put my 2.4 in I will be going for the FP Red record. I didn't get a before and after when I switched either...

It should not change the tune, however you may wanna log the car after the swap and post your results...

you trying to beat 631?? with the 2.4 huh. if my memory is correct most wanted was on built motor but 2.0 and straight race gas. Not race gas and meth etc. so if your going to do it race gas and built longblock only then i say it woudl be legit knowing you even if you dont hit it with the first couple pulls your going to up and up and up the boost until you hit it because your crazy like that.

I dont think your tune will be that off, you should be fine. Im running the 84mm housing running in the 10's and was daily driving my car and i was running 32psi.
