Motor Trend - Lessons in Evolution
I read something in Motor Trend this month in the Mail section at the beginning of the magazine that really made me smile, so I thought I would share it.
(anyone wanting to pick it up, it's the issue with the yellow GTO on the cover doing a burnout)
Lessons in Evolution
I read the letters from readers (September) who were annoyed by the presence of the Lancer Evolution in your high-speed competition (June) and complaining about boxy little cars with big wings. I felt the same way before I educated myself on the large variety of cars that are legends in foreign lands. They have a rich history and have come to amuse and delight me for the most perverse and antisocial reasons. I love to hear guys cursing the Evo (or the STi). The Evo isn't sultry and shapely like the 911, M3 or Modena. True. It's harsh and sharp. Yes. It isn't American muscle, and it's missing four cylinders. That's right. It's not cute like a Mini or Miata. Heavens, no. It just doesn't fit in, and the masses will brand it coarse and without class. It's just an ugly pocket-rocket for the fast-and-furious crowd, and it isn't worth the time to spit at it. Perfect! That's exactly the kind of car I'm looking for. The Evo doesn't ask for a place at the table; it simply takes one, making all the other guests uncomfortable. It's boxy and ugly, juvenile and cheap-looking. Keep the insults coming. I'm not going to defend the Evo, because I don't have to. After all the mud-slinging stops and the smoke clears, the Lancer Evolution is still at the table, big wing and all. Guess who's coming to dinner.

i believe another letter in that section was from a kid, who said "If i had to choose between an EVO and a Camaro, i would still choose the Camaro. Even though it is slower, not as nimble, larger, heavier, i still prefer muscle over rice. If i get stopped by a cop, i want enough power to stomp the ground and spill the coffee in the cops lap."
am i the only one who sees the irony in this comment?

Here'a a better picture...to show the ugliness. I forget how uncivilized the Evo is sometimes. Drove my friends A4 1.8T the other night, nice leather, interior was high quality, nice system ect....I couldn't have been any happier when I got back into my Evo...
Agree and understand completely.
Smiled the other day when my friend told me the car looked a bit juvenile (even with my low wing). I would have said, "dude it's an experience, not eye candy", but then I realized it wasn't worth my breath to say it . . .

Here is a line for those guys that came straight from compact car. No switches , no electrical garbage and Straight up no bull****!
If I wanted another camaro I would go pick it up at the local dump, there is more out of commission than their are EVO sold in the US!
