Convince my why I shouldnt sell my IX and get a BMW 335d???

I'm seriously contemplating the jump from a 2006 IX SE to a 2011 BMW 335d. I know they are 2 complete opposites, but after test driving the 335d, I was left !
425lbs trq although a 5k redline. It handled fine and had a finely crafted interior. The suspension is a little soft, but its a factory stock BMW so its expected. Also 36mpg vs my Evo's 17 would mean half the gas bill monthly!

As for the Evo, Ive owned it for a year and have had many enjoyable moments with exception of a few unjustified stops by the popo, mostly just because of the wing! I never got around to a track day which is a regret. But as I approach 30, Im constantly stereotyped by the people that are not "in the know."

Anyhoo, wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone can actually make a reasonable comparison between the two.

the evo IX doesn't have to be fast to be enjoyed. it is a classic even nowadays. you will like the 335d because it is new and fast but when a newer version comes along, it will lose its shine just as fast, unlike the evo IX SE, it ages well

The EVO IX is classic nonetheless. That's why I bought it instead of an X. However, it needs to be driven in boost to be enjoyed otherwise it feels anemic getting going. Also, my biggest concern is comfort when Im tired. I cant keep the thing on the road sometimes just because it really needs your full attention. The 335d just goes and its auto too which normally I am against, but with so much trq, it actually feels good not shifting.

It's pretty simple, if your growing out of the Evo scene sure trade for the 335. IMO If I were you I would just get a used luxo car between 10-15k used and keep the Evo for the weekends.

I was actually in that boat, where I was going to get a DD but I only have a 1 car garage and driveway so shuffling cars around is a PITA. Also, we have a babymobile so when the wifey needs to go out to class or errands and I watch my daughter, she would need something other than Evo to drive and the DD probably wont cut it for her.

Its a significant price increase to jump to the 335d, but im getting $7500 off MSRP which is why im about to pull the trigger.

Go for it.

I would never do it, but if a 335 will make you happy then buy it.

You have an '09 VW Tiguan... do you not drive it? I guess it's your wife's? Evo IX is just a rare enthusiast car so I'd keep it and get a KIA because they got some ridiculous deals going, something like $159 a month?!

The Tiguan is associated with transporting the baby so whoever is watching her, takes Tiggy. My wife will be returning to school and I cringe every time she takes the Evo somewhere. People chase her, honk at her, try to race etc. I can handle it, but I dont want her in that position. I also don't feel right leaving the Evo outside the garage. My mind isnt 100% made up, but tomm I will know if I move forward.

I could have bought a used 335i when I got my Evo last year, but I didnt. Now the 335d changes my mind. Ive never owned a BMW with trq and its addicting and fun!

Thanks for not flaming on this thread, I really wanted some positive criticism which is more than I can say for the guys on the BMW forums, lol!

Go for it, you can always buy another Evo if you get sick of the 335d.

I got 4yr/50k maintenance and warranty. Lets hope im making another $20k a yr by then and I wont need to worry about it.

Plus in Europe these diesels are BMWs bread and butter. I trust them more than their gas counterparts which are pretty much only for the US market.

for buying another Evo. It would probably be an X tho as their looks are growing on me. I just cant give up my IX for another EVO even if its an X right now. Need to jump into something else hence the radical change to a diesel nonetheless!

Torque like that will make the car feel fast when you are on a test drive and not really flogging on the car. In traffic, passing, part throttle and take off from a light it will feel fast. When you want to wind it out and you go from half throttle to WOT and it doesn't pick up much you will realize how slow it is for a 'sporty diesel'. If you don't speed much in the evo it might not be an issue for you.
