weird squeaking noise from Coilover

I decided to post here as well as in the suspension section because i havent gotten a reply at all from there

so i just installed my BC BR coil overs and love them. everything was going great until today after a day and a half of driving with no noises what so ever, i am hearing a real bad squeaking noise from the right passenger front strut. I hear it mostly when my car when i turn my wheel either stopped or slowly turning. it sounds almost like a rubber tire turning on an almost polished surface like a buffed concrete floor, u know that kind of squeaking noise.

Im almost positive it is coming from the pillow ball mount up top by the camber adjustments. I sprayed a little bit of WD-40 there and the sound went away for about a couple of minutes then came right back. Should i used a thickker grease maybe? like silicone or heavy duty grease?

is there maybe a break in period for coils? i was thinking it kind of sounds like it is just new coils breaking in but i don't know why it just started happening all of the sudden.

thanks guys, any help would be greatly appreciated

who did the installation? I think best thing at this point is go back to the installer or ask the place you bought it from...

Here's a Bump for the post for you though

I had the same problem. Solved with camber plates. The top of your coilover is rubbing the rubber on the mount.

I had this when I got mine too but it was bumps that made it squeak, making it more of a strut problem. Did you buy yours used? If so when they are used for a while than taken off and let sit fully expanded for a period of time then put back into use, they will squeak for a little while at first. Mine took about a month to be quiet. I don't know if you are in the same game i was in but just keep driving it and see if it solvs itself, not like you're hurting anything..

so i need to get new camber plates?

should i just try to get 2 new ones from BC or what? i installed them myself but did everything the same for all coilovers front and back. the front passenger strut didn't make any noise until maybe 20-30 miles then started squeaking real bad. I mean its to the point where i cringe when i take a turn. i sprayed some wd-40 on the pillow ball and mount and it stopped it for like 3 minutes, then tried some xtra heavy duty grease kind of like a paste and that did nothing, now im trying a bit of synthetic motor oil on top to see if that helps, so far nothing. all the other struts don't make a sound just the front passenger one.

i know the guy above me said its not hurting anything but it seems to be getting worse and louder each day, should i be worrying about it, just don't want to screw them up.

also they are brand new coilovers

any more suggestions? thank you all for ur input it is greatly appreciated this noise is just drivin me crazy lol

Are the locking rings tight on the strut body? I too have BC BR coilovers. I installed them myself over a month ago. I live in a town that arguably has the worst streets in America and have not had any problems whatsoever. How far did you lower the car? Did you make any camber adjustments? I only dropped mine 1 1/4 in the front and 3/4 in the rear. I made sure my measurements were spot on, and when I took it to get aligned, it was already perfect! The shop didnt even charge me! The instructions say if you get any noise to make sure the lock rings are tight. I would start there. Oh, and for anyone looking for a cheap coilover that performs well, check the BC's out. I went out on a limb buying them when I couldnt find any reviews on them, but Im glad I did. Good luck op.

so i put some fully synthetic motor oil on top of the pillow mount and let it sit there for a while after a couple days of driving, squeak is almost completely gone! i barely hear it when i turn the wheel all the way right or left now, other than that its gone.

hope this helps, thanks for all the feedback guys

Hey, signed up just to ask:

where exactly on the top pillowball mount did you apply the synthetic oil? I'm also running BC's but on a different vehicle. Also getting squeaks occasionally.

Did you put it underneath the mount plate above the spring? Or on top of the mount plate?

Almost sure I've read something about certain BC Coils having a "squeaking" issue. Can't remember where I read it, might have been on the Facebook forums. If new I'd just contact BC and see if they can help with the issue or send you a new set.

The problem is not having radial bearings. They allow the strut/spring to easily move independent of each other. Lube will work for a short time but the squeak will usually come back. Contact BC and ask them about Radial bearing mounts. Fortune auto sells them for their coilovers and if the spring diameter is the same you could probably make them work. Actually it looks like the BR series has them built in for some models....... Do yours?
