I have turned every bolt on my car since day one. From the clutch install to every oil change to tuning. Only thing I have not done is mounted the tires! Not worth it buy a couple thousand dollar machine when discount will do it for free!! Nice thread!

I think its a plus to do your own work cuz if something goes wrong its easier to identify the problem and yeah, saves you big $$$

I always try to do the work or mods to my cars myself. I think I usually do a better job than most mechanics. There are some areas that I leave to the experts like body paint and internal engine and transmission internal repairs however. I learn alot about how my car works this way too.

It is a great feeling knowing your car is built by you and not just another car built by ___________.

if you own an evolution, you SHOULD be able to or at least willing to do everything yourself short of engine, trany or tc rebuild. the only other exception would obviously be tuning. i didnt know **** about cars 5 years ago. since then i've rebuilt or replaced nearly everything myself. even did my clutch last year
just saying, half the fun of owning one of these cars is to get to kow them inside out, when you do your own work you appreciate everything a lot more.

I built my own motor 3 times. 1st time was a rookie mistake and 2nd was debris from having the crank machined. Still going strong on my 3rd tho haha. I have done my own 6 to 5 speed swap. numerous clutches..yada yadda...... i think i like working on it more than driving it bahaha.

My dad died just before my 10th birthday. A few months later our car started having brake problems. I purchased a kit, got out my dad's tools and overhauled the master cylinder. Success. That was 54 years ago. By the way, I still use some of those tools.

Since then, whatever I drive I maintain and repair. I'm not sure I take pride in it anymore – it is just what I do.

After being out of state over the 4th, today I spent a pleasant hour picking bugs out of my Evo's oil cooler with a dental pick. Try to get that service at the dealership.

When I was in college I did all the work on my cars. Now that I am working it seems like I have much less free time to do the work myself and figure things out. So basically I just change my oil and do the simple stuff. Anything complicated I bring to the shop and just let em do their thing. Knowing how cars in general work is great for sure and thats somethign you can apply to all cars.

Same here. Everything except the entire motor swap, I'd do on my own. You gain so much more self satisfaction
