Thumbs down Melted my transfer case.

Ok, I searched, and didn't come up with much. I figured there would be more. My AMS downpipe melted a hole on my transfer case. I can't tell if it's just the bolt, or if there is damage to the TC housing itself.

Anyone else done a bonehead maneuver like this? ( or know of a "friend" that did?) How did you (or your "friend") remedy the situation? Can part of the TC housing be replaced?

I'm pretty pissed at myself right now. -stuie

I'll whip out the camera in the morning. The DP is touching the TC, and there is fluid leaking from that point. I suppose vibration could have rubbed a hole, instead of melted, but regardless, there is a hole now.

Should have specified, yes I have the 2005 with ACD. The downpipe USED to clear the TC. I have had it on for about 30,000 miles. I don't know what happened.

I posted it already in my previous thread but you will have to replace the top cover and the gasket because you most likely melted it too. I would take it to a reputable shop and make sure everything is fine on the inside of the unit. If not then it might need to be re-shimmed or send it to Shep. Also, either wrap up your down pipe, get a new one to clear the ACD or use my way...hammer it like crazy.

Did you actually run out of fluid while driving or did you catch it beforehand?

Caught it early, I found a puddle of fluid on my driveway. Pics are coming as soon as I can get out there...

There is no way a pipe melted or wore away a hole in a transfer case. This is just a coincidence that the leak is near the exhaust. Take off the downpipe and wipe down the area then look to see where the leak is coming from
